License with a criminal record?

Published

So I'm in the process of applying for a RN license in different states by endorsement. I have a misdemeanor conviction from about 7 years ago for possession of paraphernalia (marijuana)

State of conviction does not expunge charges

But, I have not had any issues in my current state. Not with obtaining or maintaining my license, or finding work while fully disclosing everything.

I am wondering how other states treat those with this history.

Specifically, Im applying to both Texas and California.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance

There's a whole section for these sorts of issues. Maybe you already know, but if not it might be helpful to browse it:

My friend did not have trouble with her pre-nursing Marijuana charges. She was able to get the jobs she wanted with no problem. I know nurses who had trouble once they were already nurses with just a random positive UDS. The kicker seems to be when the offense occurred in relation to licensure, employment, etc...

A mistake 7 years prior with para., shouldn't give you too much trouble. But the same charge while you are in nursing school is a completely different scenario.

Best of luck!
