License with a Background

Nurses Criminal

Published

Hi all! Like many of you, I constantly stalked this site just looking for any success stories that gave me any hope for my situation, so I thought I would share my story to maybe someone else that might be suffering with anxiety thru the licensure process!

I graduated nursing school a couple of months ago. I have a DUI with an accident that happened about 6 years ago. I’m in NJ, so the DUI itself is a traffic offense (still serious, still required to report, and can still hinder licensure) and the accident, because I hit another vehicle and the other driver had a minor laceration, was charged as assault by auto which is a felony. I completed PTI and the felony was dismissed but still shows up on my record. The DUI, I had a 7 month license suspension and paid fines and surcharges and was mandated to a two day IDRC class.

I want to start of by saying, I regret my poor choice every single day, but nurses, like everyone else, are human and make mistakes. I submit all my documents in reference to the incident with my application. My application was reviewed by the board. One month after I passed the NCLEX, my unrestricted license was posted! Don’t give up hope and keep pushing! If you’ve made mistakes in the past, learn from them !

I hope this helps someone because I was an anxious wreck for 30 days and other people’s success stories are really what helped me!

best wishes to everyone!

Hello! Yes it did! I just checked the site and the meeting is definitely being held today so maybe just check back in the afternoon? Good luck!

It's 12:30 still no update. I just may cry ☹️. This is so frustrating. It's been about a month since I took it. Jan 5th. Wish there was someone on the board who's reviewing these applications I can speak with directly  this is what I see on my portal now  still just waiting the review and board approval

Yeah I don't think I am getting it today. I know they had a meeting. This is so frustrating. I hope I don't lose my job. You

Im going thru the same situation. I went to the BON today and it did not give me much hope as they are rude and very unhelpful. I uploaded all my info back in December, passed my NCLEX 01/31 and see my crime acknowledgment is still in review. This is beyond frustrating especially for something that happened over 10 years ago.

Hello! Are you in NJ? If so, the board typically reviews apps that require legal review during their monthly disciplinary meeting which is typically held the first Friday of each month. So hopefully fingers crossed you'll have your license beginning of March !

Yeah I still haven't gotten my license and I took and passed on 1/5 ?

I am in a similar situation and reading these stories are so helpful. I had theft charges dismissed from 13 years ago. I submitted my court documents along with my application. I passed my NCLEX 3/20/2023 and still under review. It's so nerve wrecking and stressful. I am keeping faith and praying that everything goes well. Hope the same for everyone else on the thread as well.

Just remember, nurses are human like everyone else and also make mistakes! Its okay, learn from them and move on! I think you will be fine, good luck and god bless ?

similar situation with NJBON, I passed the NCLEX 3/28 and still waiting for my license. I didn't disclose I was arrested for underage gambling and now my file has to go to review board July. I'm just glad the hard part is over. It's completely out of my hands and God has the final say so. I'll have my license in July.

How are you, I just wanted to know if you were licensed yet. I am still waiting. I have to wait until they meet in September. This process has been so draining and stressful. I'm trying to keep it together. ?

I'm officially licensed as of 7/27. Did you take your boards? If your meeting is scheduled for September, you'll find out within 2 weeks afterwards, if they're going to fine you. The longest wait will be WHEN you'll receive the consent along with the fine (via email). Unfortunately, the NJBON will NOT be able to tell you when to expect it. I kept calling and emailing though....
