Letters of recommendation needed for OHSU?

Published

Hello!

I was just wondering, does anyone know if any letters of recommendation are needed to apply for OHSU undergrad nursing program? Some schools require this, some don't and I know for sure the scholarship I'm aiming for does but I'm not sure if it's required for the university itself.

No, letters of recommendation are not required for the undergrad program. In fact I was told last year that they won't even look at them if you submit them with your application.

I was going to add too that you should check with ohsu to be sure in case anything changed since last year.

I will, thanks!

I sent some in anyways -- I figured it's always better to be over-prepared than miss out on an opportunity.

Check the application instructions for your program. I don't believe the undergrad programs required letters of recommendation, unless you are jointly applying to continue on to a graduate program. You can always call/e-mail and ask if the instructions are unclear.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to have double check with the OHSU because my current school's advisors aren't always up to date! It sounds like I'm not going to need it but it can never hurt to double check. Thanks guys for your input:up:

What campus are you applying to?

Portland campus- God willing;) I live close to the Monmouth campus but I really like the hospitals in Portland. The care given to the patients there is top notch so I would really like to do my clinicals in that area.

Make sure you stack your points. Portland is the most competitive campus. I'd probably apply for the closest one with the least amount of applicants... I live in Medford and was considering applying to Klamath instead of Ashland because it had a higher chance of getting in until the most recent applicant stats came out and showed both campuses had similar acceptance rate last year.

I honestly never thought of that. Thank-you, that's a good point. I'll have to take that into consideration.

This is the applicant data from last years application cycle:

  • Ashland campus: approximately 170 applications for approximately 32 positions
  • Klamath Falls campus: approximately 95 applications for approximately 24 positions
  • La Grande campus: approximately 90 applications for approximately 26 positions
  • Monmouth campus: approximately 175 applications for approximately 32 positions
  • Portland campus: approximately 400 applications for approximately 40 positions
  • Average prerequisite GPA statewide: 3.85

Both Monmouth and Portland are incredibly competitive programs, but you got an 8% higher chance with Monmouth than Portland.
