I do not like politics. I am neither a liberal nor a conservative so I don't like arguing about political sides.
I do want to know about this health care bill. So far, I know that it is saying that health insurance companies will be more regulated and people will be forced to purchase health insurance but....
- How are people going to purchase health insurance if they can't afford it now?
- How is this going to affect patient care?
- How will nurses be affected by this?
I want to know any basic information about this bill but I am a nursing student so... as is most likely shocking to all of you... I don't have much time to research it, lol.
Thanks and lets try and keep it friendly folks!

JI will say, I have heard many "right-wingers" say this but I find it funny because they never mentioned this when Bush was completely stripping our rights with the patriot act and admittedly lied about getting us into a war that is still costing billions or year and, more importantly... human lives (Iraq and american).
Obama and Bush both suck, which is why government should be minimized. Are you aware that Obama just extended the Patriot Act?

Liberal Paul Krugman asks Canadians if they like their healthcare system and they do not.....
He apparently had some bad luck with his sample size of seven, but all the large surveys - you know, actual data - show Canadians much happier with their health care than Americans, even though what they spend on it is less than half as much as we do. I don't, by the way think the Canadian system is perfect. The French system though comes pretty close: covers everyone, virtually no limit on what doctors can prescribe and some really slick use of incentives for preventive care and appropriate screening. Outperforms the US by a mile on almost every objective measure you can come up with. Costs about 60% of what we spend. And this is the kind of anectdotal evidence that I'm generally contemptuous of, but my own experience from the patient side while on vacation there was stellar.
Wow, you really hate capitalism.
Where do you that piece of silliness? To say that corporations largely control our government is simply to state an obvious fact. One that unfortunately changes only a little regardless of which party is in power. With former congressmen working as lobbyists, former generals running the big munitions companies, the revolving door between the big banks and the agencies that are supposed to regulate them, with something like 3 insurance lobbyists for every member of congress, with most of the regulators who are supposed to protect us coming from the ranks of the very industries they are supposed to regulate. And now the Supremes have ruled that corporations' right to free speech forbids any regulation of their spending on elections, so their power will be even further cemented. And the mega-mergers in the news and entertainment business have largely put the same corporations in control of the mass media, so they aren't allowed to tell us much of what's going on either.
canadians reported a decline in the quality of health care they're receiving, finds a canadian medical association survey released monday, though regional pockets of satisfaction do exist.
