lets start a nursing support group for nurses dealing with state nursing boards

Published

If there are any nurses out there who would like to start a support group for nurses, please contact me. We could try to get something started on Facebook.

We have got to do something about the unfair nursing board system. They need to start being as accountable for all their errors abs character assassinations. They make the nurses lose everything they have sometimes over false information and blackmail.

I am down for a support group, however I think that we also need to be accountable for our mistakes etc. Sure, its easy to get angry at the board for making me do IPN, and putting my past out there, however, I have to remember that I was the one who made these choices and I was the one who essentially caused all of this.

I am no longer dealing with nursing boards, however I have much experience with them and I am a monitoring program participant. I would be willing to help :)

Hi there! I am in my 3rd semester of nursing program and have a criminal record. To try to make my long story short.. I have a very bad upbringing, abusive alcohol father... When I was 18/ 19 I made some huge mistakes and found, or well put myself in really bad situations. After about 2 1/2 yrs of several arrest for things.. I had 3 misdemeanors Theft by Unathorized Taking, Receiving Stolen Property, and Tampering with Public Records (fake ID). I have 5 misdemeanors that I was never convicted (Unlawful Possession, marijuana possession, etc)and never official arrested for, and lastly I have 3 felonies that 2 I was found Not Guilty and the other one the judge dismissed the whole case because it was absurd. I def made lots of mistakes and was a completely different person. I moved to CA and started fresh. Unfortunately in 2011, at the age of 21 I made another mistake. I got a DUI. My alcohol level was so low.. 0.083 that the DMV didn't even recognize my DUI so I didn't loose my license and completed a 6 week program. Since then I have completely turned my life around. I have gotten my DUI expunged and the rest of my record should be completed this month with getting expunged. I've tried to ask my Dean for help but she is more confused than I am. I have started getting reference letters and am hoping to get 7 of them. I also am trying to get my original Arrest Records but thats little more difficult since I am 2000 miles from where I grew up and had the charges at 18/19. For my rehabilitation documents I have my alcohol class, expungement of my records, maybe a letter from my Doctor, trying to locate a letter from my therapist that she wrote for the court when I was going through all of my legal mess. Do you recommend a Drug and Alcohol Evaluation? Or what else can you suggest for me?! I really can't afford another lawyer right now but also know I have a lot going on. I read on the BRN to only submit info for Convicted crimes.. but all of the other things still show up even though I wasnt convicted. Please help! I have been so upset and discouraged these past few weeks!

I have a rocky past as well, and I have applied for licensure in two states over the years.

In my case, I submitted documents for EVERYTHING, but everyone is different.

When you do, you should also include statements to explain what happened in each of the cases. Let them know what you've been doing and how you've changed your life.

It is likely that they will order you to do a drug an alcohol evaluation upon receipt of the application/documents.

I would just fill out the application honestly, and wait for their response. They will tell you what you need to do and send.

Good luck, and try not to get discouraged. You may have to jump through many hoops, but I am living proof that is totally do-able! :)

Ok thank you so much!

i think thats a good idea. A lot of us deal with the board. Its not just those in recovery or with criminal back grounds

I applied 18 months ago. 10 weeks ago I took a settlement agreement for a DUI that's nearly 10 years old. I appreciate the boards screening for public safety but this process is causing me crippling depression. My only complaint is the amount of time they take from your life. It's just not fair.

I am interested in this, if there is still an active support group. I made a post about my situation a few months ago and got no replies. I feel lost

The one problem I'd see with a Facebook support group is that because of the nature of Facebook, all anonymity goes out the window. Even if a group was secret with access to it strictly controlled, there's no guarantee that what is in that group will stay in that group. All it takes is one screenshot/shared post and now the content is out of your hands and therefore out of your control.
