ok, i cannot be the only one applying to a nursing school in manhattan? i would like to hear experiences from anyone with an application to a nursing school in nyc.
i am scheduled to take the nln pax in less than three weeks!!! i keep studying every chance i get but always feel that it is not enough, the work load is enormous. any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated. i applied to two cuny schools and did not make it in. the competition is ferocious. i am now applying to a private school and feel i have a better chance if i score very high on the nln pre-entrance exam. has anyone taken the nln recently, let's get some feedback .

I have taken the NLN for Beth Israel School of nursing. It is not that easy especially if you're like me and took Physics and Chemistry over 2 years or more ago. The science section was quite hard because they asked a lot of Physics questions which I did not study for, but I did pretty good overall. My recommendation is to study the NLN review book, that was my bible for a week! It tells you everything you need to know and have questions from past NLN tests. Good Luck!!
Thanks for your response, I am studying the review book and other supplemental materials, I just can not help feeling it is not enough. I went through the whole verbal sections of the whole book and wrote down every word I was unfamiliar with or unsure. It is a huge list. I am doing the same with the other subjects as well. 10 days to the test and I have only completed all the vocabulary and physics, I am now attacking earth science and anatomy, next is math and chemistry, I hope I do not run out of time, perhaps I am over studying. Well wish me luck. Ciao.

I applied to Beth Israel and have my interview next week.
Which CUNY schools did you apply to?
Good luck with your studying!

I applied to Hunter and Lehman too competitive. Congradulations on your interview. I went to Beth Israel's open house and I remember them saying that if you have an interview you are as good as in. You would have to say something far out to screw it up, I would imagine. I am assuming you took the NLN and submitted your scores to them along with the reference letters etc. Would you be so kind to tell me your experience with the NLN and any advice on what to really focus on. Also can you tell me all the steps you took that led to an interview with Beth Israel. Did they call you or write to you, it is very exciting isn't it? Well good luck even though I am sure you do not need it, and look forward in hearing from you. :balloons:
I also applied to Hunter but have not heard anything back yet.
I found the science section to be the most difficult. It has been 10 years since I have been in high school so I had to review quite a bit. I did chemistry last year and currently doing A&P so they both helped me. I bought the Cliff Notes for Physics and studied that a lot so in the end I got through ok. I found Math and English not too bad. I also made the list of words like you did and it really helps. A bunch of people must of just guessed their way through the science part when I did my test because they left the exam about 15 mins after the science section began and there is absolutley no way to read and answer every question in that amount of time.
My application is complete with BI including the letters of rec. You will receive your exam results in the mail and then they called me a few days after that.
Good luck!

when i applied to hunter i was competing with gpas of 3.8 - 3.9 i do not have that, that is insane. if i did i would be scraping every dime i could for medical school. high school for me was 21 years ago, ooch!!! would you be so kind to tell me in the science area of the nln what you found to be most difficult. perhaps it was physics, chemistry, earth science, anatomy oh and what systems where covered more than others in anatomy, where there anatomical diagrams where you have to figure out what the parts are or what they do? did you need to memorize formulas, equations? laws?
what emphasis was placed on the math section? was it basic, algebra, geometry?
i got your message because i am taking a study break but your last post is giving me more of a drive to hit the science section even more so, thanks so much.

to be honest i can't really remember specific questions from the exam. the q's that stuck in my head were the ones i had trouble with and that was primarily physics. the math section included both basic and algebra. how i decided what areas to focus on was using the nln review guide. i did questions for each section and found out the areas i got the most incorrect and focused on those sections first. the nln review book is a great guide as it has questions from past exams and gives you the best idea what to expect. pay attention to time limits set in the review guide, time seems to run out quickly on the test.
thanks again so much for your feedback, i will put more effort on physics and algebra. i will also try and fine tune my timing with the practice exams. i have been going over the mary mcdonald book so much that at times i wake up hugging the book instead of my pillow. let me know how your interview goes, the best of luck and god bless. :balloons:
what date is your exam?
