Let's me guess...AP nursing flooded too?

Published

So I begin at frontier for their fnp program next month and to be honest I'm reconsidering it...nursing all together actually. With as flooded as the market is right now for RNs is it not the same for FNPs? I don't relish the thought of going 60k in debt and then being unable to find a job.

Hey tinkerNurse, is it the same frontier nursing school in ky. Is their tuition really $60,000. i thought it was more in the range of 27000-30000

You will be just fine. Follow your heart and you will find the job that is just right for you. As far as your question, yea it is getting flooded. But rightfully so. There is a big need for mid level providers globally. I finish so in April, and I started applying on March 3rd just in case it took months to get a call back, and I got 4 calls today! (I live in Michigan). There are a lot of needs, you just have to know where to look. Most NP jobs are not posted like RN jobs.

As far as the online thing, lots of schools and programs are online now. Its a new wave of learning. I attended school in class and a few classes online (policy, pharm, & research) and those where not too bad. It is gonna depend on how motivated you are and your study habits. I look at it like this, you have the book and class materials either way. Most online programs offer live lectures via wimba or something and you can replay those lectures over and over again...so that may be a plus if the school you are attending does that. I have no doubt that they do.

And I completely understand about you being annoyed with the nursing field being flooded. I think that's a shame. What really breaks my heart are the people who actually want to be nurses and wanted to make a difference, then to turn around and not even get a job bc someone that just wanted to make money is working instead....

At any rate, girl, you will do just fine if this is what you really want to do ;)

I think tuition is like 35k for the bridge but they start you at a lil over 20k a year in student loans. I'm assuming that's for misc things like books?

Thank you do much for your kind words! It really isn't about money to me. I was actually a biochem major but a nurse saved my life and inspired me to want to help others, the way she helped me. She was actually who pinned me at my graduation. I Ty for the encouragement and I mean that! I actually decided to go and I'm typing this from frontier! God bless you all 8)

Wow, what part of the country are you in? I am considering a post-master's FNP becasue I cant find a CNM gig.

Huh? Who are you asking that? And I'd question spending a lot more money getting another advanced practice degree if you're in a part of the country where advanced practice nursing is flooded/under utilized?
I think it really depends on your location and your specialty. Where I live, it seems like the market for FNPs is flooded. However, as far as I can tell, it looks like the demand for CNMs is strong. So, I guess it just depends. I also have heard that the demand is really strong for PMHNPs, all over the US.

Sorry, I hit the "reply" button instead of the "quote" button. Just curious where all the CNM jobs are

Ever gave any thought to opening your own center? I fully expect for it to be hard as hell for me to find a position as a fnp by the time i graduate. I plan on hopefully opening my own small office.

Frontier School of nursing FNP is a well established, well respected online program. If you are self motivated, discipline yourself for self-study and have an inquisitive nature, should do well. Due to lack of physicians entering family practice/internal medicine, prediction is bright for FNP.

I've found many positions advertised in the business journals Business News - The Business Journals also NPCentral.com

Best wishes moving forward.

It would be so cool to open up your own office. Hopefully there will be a good job for you to get some experience in first before you make that move.

I know right? Plus I'm going to have to eat ramen for two or three years if I get a position in order to pay for it lol. I'd love to have my own little office in a rural community.
