This was origanally on another post, but I felt it deserved it's own post It's no wonder the public gets the idea that we are handmaidens. Did anyone see Jay Leno last night? One of his "jokes" was that he had seen on CNN that there was a nursing shortage. And we can't do without nurses, because without nurses there would be no more Media movies. Someone originally posted this and i could'nt believe it I have written to NBC and complained about it....everyone here should do the same! [email protected] is the email.....lets be heard!!!
I have never cared for Jay Leno. When I heard about the comments he made about the nursing shortage, I immediately fired off an e-mail to NBC. He and his writers are really ignorant. I hope he is never in the position where he has to rely on a nurse to take care of his most basic needs!! Or maybe I do!!
OK, I don't watch any TV...I'm always online . But I emailed this scumbag anyway telling him I'd never watch his show again and that David Letterman now had a regular viewer in me! (I just remember David Letterman's picture on the front of a nursing Spectrum magazine--I may have even perused the article--but I know it was positive.)
It all comes down to RESPECT, doesn't it? And we don't much get it. *sigh*
David Letterman is just as obnoxious. Obviously many of you missed his show about 2 months ago, when one of his comedian buddies celebrated his recovery with him on the show (not a rerun) by having singing and dancing nurses complete with cleavage, mini-mini skirts, spike-heeled shoes, and white stockings with garterbelts. I guess Dave has short-term memory. He'll remember, though, when one of his grafts occludes.
I received this today in my email........Robin, I wanted to follow up with you and let you know we are
sending a letter to NBC regarding Jay Leno's "joke" on The
Tonight show. Once the letter is out the door, we'll post it on
our website, www.nursingworld.org, as well. I encourage you
and any other nurses to contact the show as well. As I said in
my earlier mail, sometimes hearing from individual nurses can
make a difference even more than just from an organization --
perhaps, working together we can all make a difference.
Thank you for your efforts in this area.
I don't know if it will do much good, but at least the ANA is taking notice of the situation.....
I know this thread is old but.......
I had a very funny image pop into my head after reading Leno's joke. I pictured him laying in a hospital bed suffering from a massive PE, horrid chest pain, so short of breath he could not speak.....the only person around was a prostitute dressed as a nurse doing a strip tease instead of taking decisive, quick RN actions Ha....ha....ha. :)

Okay, okay I'll write. I didn't see the Leno show. But, from what I've seen of him, he's always taking "pot" shots at a group or profession in his monologues. I usually let it roll off my back. After all, it's his right, and it's what he is getting paid for. Like many of you, I simply don't watch him anymore.
I will write that Jay Leno never knows if he will have to undergo a major operation like David Letterman and have no choice but to exclaim how great nurses are once he receives good care. And let's do make sure we "rub quality nursing in" when he or his family seek our services.
