Just looking for anyone with recent experiences here. Was questioned about diverting and admitted way more than could be proven. Will likely go to drug court so criminal part will be gone. Any idea how long it takes to hear from BON and possible punishment? Seems like sanctions are all over the place from months to years. What does your license actually say after you have had discipline? Thanks.

Hey darlin! Welcome to recovery for nurses! You will find so much support here! I went last week to speak with a board investigator. From the time I got caught to the time the investigator approached me: six months. After the interview he spoke with the board (I was very candid and honest and he and I even had some moments of laughter). He made his report to the board, and then called me back on Saturday. The board wants me to get an inpatient screening (basically to determine what type of treatment I need, most likely outpatient because I've got a goood grip on sobriety and lots of support :)). So after that he will report back to the board and I will know what the deal is. Possible suspension for up to a year (the investigator recomended a year suspension with six months stayed to the board) and then an MOA to follow. In Alaska we do not have an alternative to punishment system, so my journey will be public knowledge (aka when you look at the disiplines on the BON website it will say I diverted between x and x months, what I diverted, and what my MOA entails. Everyone's journey is different, the great thing is that you can get well now. You're no longer trapped and you have a chance at life. Get to an NA or AA meeting, there is so much support there also, and some days it is my only grasp on sanity. Cheers!

I just graduated from drug court in ohio. I was in-leu-of with my charges and had to complete three months of in patient treatment in ADAPT and was in Iop for a year. I was not eligible for the alternative program for the ohio board so basically I was just punished. The minimum in which nurses are suspended in ohio is two years. I met with the board investigator within a week after I was "caught" with diversion. I chose to complete drug court to work on me before dealing with the board. I know that you don't have to do that. That's what I chose. I just started my consent agreement and started doing the random screenings this month. There's a lot of hoops to jump through, but it's worth it. We worked really hard to get out license! Message me if you'd like to talk about it. It's not as scary as it may seem right now.
Hi. How long did it take you to hear from the prosecutor? I guess it's different in each county. What were you charged with? What did the drug court mandate? When were you offered a consent agreement? What are the stipulations? Sorry for the questions but information is either limited or overwhelming on the net...hard to make sense of it all.
Thanks.
After my test came back positive, it took about a week to talk to board investigator. It took about two months for prosecutor to charge me. I went to court and was sentenced to treatment in leu of conviction. They were very respectful. I did not go to jail. I had to be hand cuffed a couple times, but that was no big deal. I was taken straight from court to ADAPT (in patient treatment). This is with Hamilton county. Not sure what the others do. I will say... It was the best thing that's ever happened to me. It saved my life!!! I'm now grateful for all of it. Drug court is tough. But doing time in prison is harder. So I got everything I cld out of rehab. Good luck, girl! You can get thru this. Keep your head held high!

Please be sure to retain an attorney with experience in administrative law & specifically in dealing with the board of nursing and health licensure issues. You may have a lawyer for the criminal aspect of this but that is very different.
Good luck.

I was charged 2 months later. Did have to do jail time and I now have a felony conviction. Did a consent agreement with the board. (Big mistake) License suspended for 5 years. Just now starting the re-instatement process.
Wow! May I ask what you were charged with? Seems most are offered drug court or some other alternative to discipline...were you?
