Hi!
This thread is for people who plan to apply to the Lehman nursing program of accelerated (Summer 2020) or generic (Fall 2020) Wish you all the best of luck! Let's keep us all motivated!
I know this isn't the most comforting thing to hear, but I feel like it has to be said...
Budget cuts are affecting all of CUNY, and COVID-19 is the reason why. Many professors and faculty members have been laid off. It will take a while for things to return to "normal". I understand it's disappointing, but it has to happen. They've made cuts everywhere they possibly could, and unfortunately they had to target educational programs too. The chairperson had a town hall meeting with all of the nursing faculty and senior/junior students in early May. She said budget cuts were being made at Lehman but never specified where or how. I guess we're now finding out what is happening.
Considering Lehman barely has enough resources to begin with, it's better for them to take no or a very minimal amount of students. You guys would suffer greatly. We did even on a "full" budget.
Disorganization is very common in this nursing program. One person says something, but another person will tell you another thing. You will also be the last to find out about things (as evidenced by what has just happened.) Sorry to say that this is only the beginning. The disorganization of the program is one of their alumni's biggest complaints. If you guys don't get in now, I hope you'll find a better program or will be able to attend Lehman's program when it is in much better condition.
Hi everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well in this pandemic. I just completed my associates and now I am planning to apply for generic nursing in Lehman college for fall 2021. I did check the requirements however wanted to know about the HESI exam, is it too hard? I heard there’s going to be a question about anatomy physiology , physics and Chemistry. Is it going to be very difficult? And what books should I buy to prepare for HESI exam? Thank you in advance.

The HESI isn’t as bad as you may think it is. I honestly thought it would be like the SATS, but it was way easier. For Lehman’s requirements you will only take Anatomy, Reading and Math. There’s no Chemistry or Physics in the exam unless you’re also trying to use your HESI grades to apply to another school that requires the other sections of the test. I primarily used Quizlet and Youtube videos. I made flash cards and studied them everywhere, but there’s no harm in buying the Elsevier book to study since that is the company who makes the test and the math section of it is great. Specifically on Quizlet there’s information on how to answer the Critical Thinking portion of the test. There’s also a free trial exam on the elsevior website, if you’re interested I can help you find it. One or two of the questions I got were on there.
Yeah these things are pretty apparent Any time one has to deal with the department. There is little to no cohesion. I’d be excited to attend and engage with this program and grow with it but it seems so frazzled even when the rest of the world was ‘normal’. And I am not even sure that concept exists anymore.
I hope all are all and blessings are abundant. Good luck to all. I’m going to fade away for a week or two and leave this anxiety alone LOL.

is your GPA to get into the program determined by the prerequisites only or all the classes you've taken?
Hi! It can be both, they’ll arrange us by science prereq GPA first and then if they see someone with the same science GPA and HESI score, they’ll compare your overall GPA.

Oh okay that's good. I wonder if they go through with reduced seats.

Yeah. She told me basically if there are reduced seats that the students with 4.0 gpas will receive them. It sucks for most of us but as you said, there is nothing we can do.
