Legally What Can She Do??

Published

I started a PRN job at a HH company (my first time ever). I was hired to do start of cares/recertifications. They threw me in to doing them with basically no training. Realistically,I didn't have to accept that but I felt bad bc they were like “these people really need their care-just do their assessment and we will walk you through how to document after”. Well that was a horrible idea. I completed 4 assignments and quit because the fourth patient was COVID + and I was supplied no PPE,nothing. Everything I had I brought myself. I didn’t know the pt was still Covid+ (and so was the other family members) until they told me. The company told me they do not accept Covid pts. I walked outside and called the owner of the company as well as the DON (neither person returned my call for an hour) to quit so I notified the owner via text.

I got one hour of training of how to complete an OASIS via zoom with the DONs kid screaming in the back. Then I couldn’t reach her or anyone else again bc she was fired and so was the NP that I was supposed to reach out to if I had questions.I completed all documentation to the best of my ability and submitted it. I was paid(incorrectly,I may add). Now,weeks later the owner is contacting me saying I need to go in and make changes to my notes so she can get paid for these patients.
this is insanity. It’s never ending with her. What if I just don’t make the changes? Can I just ignore her?? Will I be held responsible?

If you quit do not go in and make changes to anything or agree to anything further. Stop all contact with the owner and anyone else from the company. Block numbers, emails whatever. If updates or changes need to be made to the patients information for the owner to get paid, they can do the visit if licensed, if not, then it's on the owner to explain to the providers or whomever why things were not done/completed.

It sounds like a nightmare of a place where one could easily get into trouble w/fraud, etc. Protect yourself and your license.

If your check is not correct, contact the Dept of Fair Labor for guidance on how to get it corrected unless there is an HR person you can talk with but otherwise, chalk it up to a bad experience and move on.

Yep... I agree with Peachpit!  I currently work for a HH agency and this is not the way to treat your employees or patients!
