Legacy Health Residency, Portland, OR

Published

Just wondering if anyone else had applied to Legacy Health (Emmanuel Children's Hospital)? This is in Portland, OR. It closed last Friday and I am wanting to know when people start hearing from them about interviews. Thanks for any info you have!!

Hmmm, where do you even check your application status? I didn't know anything about that.

Hey pdx-RN, I was wondering, what department did your friend get the call from on Friday?

Well no more stress, the deadline was today and and no call. 300 applicants and only 16-20 positions the odds were against so many of us so maybe it was best not to go to the interview and still not get the position. I know 3 people who got into the residency program this past summer and they all had relatives who were nurse managers. I don't have any inside connections. It stinks to know that they already know who their going to hire but still have to go through all the steps.

It is killing me that there are so many new nurses, including myself, that are so eager to start our careers. As June gets closer I just start freaking out about the hundreds of additional nurses that will be added to the job pool. Somethings got to happen, how in the world are we going to get the experience if nobody hires us?

Don't lose heart. I called on Friday to ask how I should update my license info in my application packet and while I had them on the phone I asked when we should expect to hear back about second interviews. I was told by the person running the residency program on Friday that managers were still looking through applicants info and that they would still be making calls through the middle of this week.

Thank you for your kind message. I think I'm just becoming really bitter. You know we all worked so hard to where we are and I knew I probably wouldn't find my dream job but I never thought that 7 months after graduation I'd still be looking. Best of luck to you and I will try to channel my frustration into something positive.:)

It is really frustrating. My passion is Pediatrics. I finally got a home health position and have been working it for the past 3 months. Love my kiddos and have learned SO much! But then so many of the application requirements stress 6 months CLINICAL experience! I feel my home health experience, at night, is very worthy of consideration. I am on my own and have to think on my own. These kids are seriously and chronically ill. I am trying to keep the faith that God knows what I need. Maybe that won't be Portland, but I am praying I will eventually get in a hospital setting. Hang in there everyone!

Hi everyone. I just want to update you guys on the application process. I got a call today for a second interview with the nurse manager at the Cardiology/telemetry unit. She said that managers are still in the process of selecting and calling applicants. She said you should hear back by tomorrow or Thursday from CARDIAC/TELEMETRy only. She doesn't know when you will be contacted by nurse managers from those specialty units, like ICU, OR, OB etc.. If you put these units as your preference, you might hear back by the end of the week... I know it's not much info but it hope this helps a little bit!

I don't blame you. When we started this journey, we were told by our clinical instructor who also worked as an acute care oncology nurse that all we would need would be a "warm body & an RN" and that we would be getting sign on bonuses to work wherever we wanted  Now here we all are wondering if we will ever be able to find a job period.

I just didn't want you to turn your phone off and crawl under the covers just yet :redbeathe

Congrats on the call back! That is the unit I selected so knowing that there is still a chance they'll call is great news. Thanks!

For those who had second interviews for the Summer cohort, what were some of the interview questions like? Were they the standard questions? Thanks!

I called HR, She said that all the managers have not made their selections yet and we should hear by the first part of next week. Don't dispair! There is still hope! :yeah:
