Left and Right Job Interviews turned down!

It is really frustrating to find a job UNLICENSED. I feel like I'm making myself feel so down applying in a Nursing facility where I already know I'd be "REJECTED". Some of you might think that that's the dummest thing to do, appliyng in a position which you're never qualified and unlicensed. Yes, I applied as a Nursing Assistant with my BSN knowing that they would require me to present a CNA License. I took risks and feeling so ashame as I might be tagged as someone who doesn't know how to comprehend what "REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS" means. Like I said, I just took risks, wanting to be called, hear what they got to say. I have that attitude where I don't care if I would be rejected. All I know is I need them to insist and open my mind that I really need to take a licensure exam. I was just shocked that 90% of the applications I've turned in have called and asked me for an interview and later on was asked to present CNA License. Right on the phone I told them that I have no license yet and they told me to get it and call them back. I was so shy to ask if there's any other job open as I can't even afford to pay the CNA class/exam in a coimmunity college. As soon as I hang up the phone, I sobbed and cry out of sadness and happiness. Sadness because I was so coward to ask or atleast grab the chance and ask politely if there's any other job open that does not require license and on the other hand I am happy because I know that a lot are applying yet I was called and was given some advice and encouragement to take my licensure and call them back for an interview.

I've been here in San Diego for 9 months now and it has been a struggle. Right now, I'm seeking any job just so I can save a little and pay the LVN application fee and prepare myself because I think, they might require me to take classes to sit for LVN exam eventhough I am a BSN graduate and a nurse in the Philippines. Is this true? Oh well, this happened to someone I know who took LVN CA exam.

I think in my past thread, I have mentioned that I am an immigrant Nurse from the Philippines. People here might be tired reading threads from a Philippine grad or RN asking the same question, "What should I do, I was declined from taking NCLEX in CA". Believe me, I followed those threads as well as those who seek advice with their LVN Application. It was sad that Philippine RN or Grad have to undego the process of getting additional classes just to sit on NCLEX and as well as in LVN application too but who are we to even compalin right?

Anyways, just to top it all, is there anyone here who knows a job in a health care facility that I can apply for? Or a place here in San Diego you know I could apply with my BSN degree. A position which will not require nursing license. I don't mind being a helper, aide, etc. Also, do you need to have a license as a caregiver here in San Diego? Oh well, I just need to start earning and get my license. I hope someone can share their knowledge.

Thank You!

I have never applied for NCLEX as I already know that I would be declined and will be deemed to take some classes which I cannot afford yet.

Why were you declined a chance to take NCLEX?

I'm not sure what immigration documentation is required, but if you can prove you graduated from a nursing school with a BSN and have the proper immigration documentation, you should be allowed to take the test to get licensed. If you cannot supply the proper documentation then you will be declined, but they WILL tell you why so that you know what you need to do.

I am not sure of any direct healthcare positions that do not require licensure. Perhaps phlebotomy, but that is just a guess. I do know that foreign nurses get licensed and hired all the time, you just have to jump through an extra hoop or two more than US trained nurses.

Specializes in Cardiac Step down/ LTC.

The OP will have concurrency issues (Theory and clinical time aren't concurrently done in her nursing program), so California will not let her sit for NCLEX. OP will have to take I think med/surg and OB again in order to be eligible for NCLEX. California is a tuff state to get licensed in.

Every Filipino nurses or grad were subjected to take additional classes for ob/med because of concurrency issue and for those who are challenging LVN as a leeway, some were asked to take pharmacology classes to complete the 54hrs requirement.

You were right to say that foreign nurses have high chances too to be hired (atleast for me, it almost happened, just that I have no license) I think it just really takes perseverance to apply in person than online)

For Phlebotomy, I need to be certified or licensed and be trained by the state. I've digged holes and did a lot of research but it seems that I really need to go back to school or get whatever low paying job so I can afford to get licensed here.

Im applying as a caregiver in a long term facility here in San Diego and hoping they can accomodate me.

True. That is why I havent filed yet. As soon as I get a job and somehow save for the schooling, that's when I'll apply.

Front desk, Housekeeping, kitchen aid, maintenance, janitorial and activities person are some jobs that are in nursing homes or hospitals. Even though these are not direct health care positions they don't require licensing and you may build connections.

Thanks for the reply. Today, I will apply as a Resident Assistant in an Assisted Living Facility. I'm hoping they could get me. :)
