  1. Yes they do. You just have to apply for a license through reciprocity to get a license in ND since you have a non compact CA license. That can be taken care of after you get a job offer. You don't need it beforehand in order to apply for a job. Many RN's at St A's are from California.
  2. It depends on how the new grad job market is in your area and on how much you want to work in the position offered. Is it the floor or specialty you really want? Personally I would cancel the vacation and eat the loss if they cant work it into their schedule because it sounds like your all set. Jobs in my neck of the woods are scarce for new grads.
  3. Let me be the first to congratulate you on a job well done.
  4. I'm sure it really depends on the facility. SNF's have a high staff turnover because of the high workload. If your looking for boring you could try your friends place. You will learn more on a acute wing however. The LTC wings can be boring because they become routine for the most part(same meds, blood sugar checks and treatments). You have to worry about falls and skin tears since they are usually older. Admissions are less frequent on an LTC wing as long as they are mostly full. You also get to know the LTC people better since they are always there.
  5. Yes RunBabyRN was very fortunate with the training. I worked in a SNF as my first job as well and got two weeks of training. I know one person who recently got 4 days training as a new grad. Are they going to put you in a LTC wing or sub acute wing? You can always try and ask for more time by saying you don't feel ready. I worked on a LTC wing but trained on the acute wing. My nurse to patient ratio was 1:30. Once you get a routine down its not so bad.
  6. Since they seemed to like you might be a good candidate for another position there like ®Nurse said. Keep your head up and keep trying. How did you find out they went with someone else and what did they say exactly?
  7. Yes, definitely. Applying for other jobs is fine. The background check is for only the company that orders it. Other companies wont know that company ordered one. Sometimes they give you a copy if you ask for one.
  8. When I was hired at a nursing home they just like you hired me on the spot. However your background check , references and drug test have to pass. If one of the checks take a long time they usually push back the orientation date. Congratulations.
  9. FYI some states like California don't allow for you to get a license if you go to Excelsior College just in case you were planning on moving. Its because the clinical's aren't synced together well with the full online education. I went from LPN to RN. Some people go that route because they couldn't get into RN school right away or they want to try nursing out first before committing for another year and bridging in to RN. Also many schools want you to have the prerequisites for nurisng done before applying to nursing school. Ex. Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology and Chemistry.
  10. Front desk, Housekeeping, kitchen aid, maintenance, janitorial and activities person are some jobs that are in nursing homes or hospitals. Even though these are not direct health care positions they don't require licensing and you may build connections.
  11. I know where your coming from when it comes to living in a small town. I too am from a big city and lived in a town of population 50,000 in Western Illinois for two years. It took a while to get used to life there but it grew on me. When I moved back home to the city I actually missed the things I thought I didn't like in the small town, no lines, very quiet and being far from a large population base. Who knows you may feel a similar way if you move back.
  12. Appreciate your post. Every three months sounds like a win. It really motivates me knowing there really are options for us ADN's out there.
  13. Some state boards post quick while others take weeks. When you registered to the state board did you have the option for an interim permit. It allows you to work as an RN while waiting to take the boards.
  14. The Western Illinois area hires LPN's in Skilled nursing homes and doctors offices. Nursing homes pay better than doctors offices. The pay was $15 an hour but the cost of living was low. My apartment was only $400 a month and gas was cheap.
  15. Tyler Texas seems like they may be a possibility. I see a lot of the postings say experience preferred as their only requirement which is great news. I'll definitely look into getting into BSN's after landing something. Thanks
