Lee Memorial Internship 2014

Published

Hello everyone! I know there was a topic about this but I thought I'd refresh it for this year. So how many have you applied to the Lee Memorial intern program for Feb 2014? Does anyone have any advice?

Where in miami beach? And i am a male nurse,

Oh sorry about that. is going to be in 4300 alton road, miami beach

Awwww guys I'm so sorry to hear that :(

BTW, I should probably mention something about the Mt. Sinai open house you guys may be planning to go to. I've been there (since I live here in Miami) and it's not a fair. It's an open house that does interviews to everyone on the spot. You go into a huge room and there are two people from HR. Everyone is called 1 by 1 to be interviewed in front of everyone. It's kind of like the last interview for Lee except a MILLION more nurses because Miami has nursing schools and new grads by the thousands and I'm not exaggerating. Be prepared for this because it's an interview. And it takes foreverrrr to get called. It's for their internship program, they have 2 a year. Me and my friend went in August and she got called in December for the 2nd round of interviews. They have 5 rounds of interviews btw. Unfortunately, she didn't get picked but yeah. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on that one.

That is absolutely dissapointed :( I dont know what else to do

Be persistent and keep trying. I've been trying since July and only now is when I got this opportunity. It'll happen. Just keep applying everywhere. And I mean EVERYWHERE. Go to Mt. Sinai, you never know. Just prepare and hit it out of the park. Good luck!

Hey guys... Never give up. It has taken me 8 months to finally get a job. Delray Medical has their RN internship beginning in March. Northwest Medical Center (HCA) has an internship too. You can be considered for Memorial Healthcare System's "scholarship recipient" positions even if you are not a scholarship person, as they have RN internships although it is not advertised as so. I went through many loop holes and trial and errors to figure this all out. After you apply online, You MUST either mail your resume/cover letter into Nurse Recruitment OR go in person with this to be considered for any interview as a new nurse grad (no experience). I personally did a mailing to about 25 hospitals in South Florida and the phone calls came in. Also, I crafted the ideal resume and cover letter and the responses came in....all within the same week. You MUST stand- out among the hundreds of applications and go the extra mile (an online app or a phone call will NOT cut it.)

As for HR... it goes: Internals, scholarships, and lastly referrals. If you do not have a referral to the hospital you are applying to, then find one!

I do not think it is any coincidence that within the same time frame of reconstructing my resume and cover letter AND doing the mailing that I got 4 interviews, all new grad positions.

I would also like to add this.... In my final class in nursing school, we had a resume assignment. We were told for the class assignment to include our clinical rotations and NOT to include them when we apply to jobs, as "they" already know what we went through in school. I beg to differ! Since I am so studious, I listened and did exactly what I was told. But NO responses; nothing! As soon as my classmate told me to include the clinical rotations, as she got calls this way, I did this. And sure enough phone calls right away. Now it is difficult to say if this is the reason why or is it just a better time of year for jobs. Either way, I gained results. The same thing goes for the mailing. My friend told me to do it many months ago and I thought it was silly. Well, that also gave me results. My advice....Do whatever you need to do to stand out and let them know you are the candidate they are looking for (without seeming too desperate).

Well, I just applied for the April Internship at Lee Memorial. I don't feel very confident, I know there are probably a bazillion people applying for these internship positions, and since I am not from around here, I don't have any referrals, or know anyone who works there. I went to nursing school in Iowa, so I don't even know any instructors or other resources around here.

But, I just passed my NCLEX-RN Feb. 6, and I am looking forward to the difficult task of finding a new grad RN position somewhere. It just seems crazy to me that there are so many RN positions available in this area, yet they all require experience.

Wish me luck if you're reading this! :)

I should never underestimate myself...I just got a call for an interview Monday, the 10th. :D Looks like I now have an excuse to go shopping!!! :) Also, time to brush up on my interview skills since I haven't interviewed since April of 2010! SO EXCITED!!! (and super nervous!!!)

Specializes in Emergency Room.

Does anyone know how the internships work if you are already an employee of LMHS? I'm getting ahead of myself because I haven't even gotten a response from nursing school yet. I just like to prepare

Someone had written that a CNA who worked at LMHS graduated RN school and still had to go through the same application and interview process as everyone else, I think you would just go through as an internal candidate instead of an external candidate.

Good Luck with nursing school!!
