Leaving the UK for greener pastures

World UK

Published

I am interested in learning why UK nurses are seeking employment overseas--it can be anywhere, although I am especially interested in those coming to the US. It is for an article I am writing, and I do not need to use your names. But I would like to hear your reasons for seeking employment outside of the UK, and if you have already left the UK--if your new overseas job has proven satisfactory/been a disaster/you can't wait to leave/are very happy, etc.

Thanks!

Thanks sue. I have just applied on-line to do my cgfns. Tell me if i'm wrong but i think first i need my cgfns, then visascreen and then nclex, and greencard. i am going to attempt to do this myself as i want to go to a specific place in Texas.before i can get my greencard i will need an employer to sponser me. when i take my nclex i'm hoping to have a few interviews lined up. If any of this is in the wrong order please let me know.

Have u any tips on taking the cgfns?

Thanks for help up to now

In the cgfns FIrst go for Certificate verification CES, you also need to apply to the Texas BON or one of the nursing BON's to sit the nclex, once you can sit the nclex you will get a ATT which is your OK to sit NCLEX ( this is valid for 3 months only) you can arrange online at http://www.pearsonvue.com unfortunately at the moment you have to go to the states to sit the exam but hopefully from next year people might be able to sit it here in the UK.

you can start the visascreen now and info for CES will cover visascreen. If you go with another BON once you pass the nclex you need to apply to Texas to have your license endorsed.

It might be easier if you can find a recruiter within the area of texas you are aiming for and they would be able to help you through the paper work needed.

hope this is of some help for now,

anna

I have sent you a PM...

Thanks Sharon, The wedding bells actually happened at my friends house in Buffalo NY. What a difference going from phoenix in the 80's-90's to buffallo in the 20's with 21 inches of snow falling the day after we got married. Caused a few problems with our flight coming home on the Wednesday but was glad to get home. Hopefully relocation will take 6-8 months, have to go to London (approx 3-4 hrs away) for a medical and interview and from there hopefully green card and USA here we come.

Hi Anna,

Congrats on your wedding! Thanks for reply. What an incredible culture shock between the climates- good thing you got to leave all the snow mess behind. Feel sorry for those that live there :o .

I am amazed at the tiring process to relocate to another country. You certainly have had more stress/planning than I care to take on-you go girl!!

:balloons: Good luck in your travel- Sharon.

The biggest delay is immigration, Hopefully I have filled most of the paperwork already, relocation wise we are going to either give away or get rid of alot of stuff and only take the things we need to take, we are treating this as a start of a new life therefore start anew with furniture etc. We just want to get out there and get started.

I didn't know you needed two years experience to sit the NCLEX? Is this just for California?

SueIP,

How is Wales in regards to the nursing shortage ? I have heard of a lot of English residents moving to Wales to get away from the rat-race. A lot of people have moved into the countryside so that they can also live off the land and live the "good life". Wales is so underrated and overshadowed by the other British countries so any information you can share will be great. :)

I think its the general requirement that you have two years experience before sitting the exam.Thats what I interpreted it as but could be mistaken.!:) I have in the past week read so many documents to do with immigration and such that my heads in a mess:rotfl: so check it out yourself to be sure!
