leaving office for ltc

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hello all! this is my first post, so hi and thanks for reading!

I haved worked in a pulmonology doctor's office for about 7 months since I graduated lpn school. It's a great place, everyone is nice and it's super-cushy! I thought it would be a great job for a new nurse, but now I am so bored! I don't feel like a nurse, I don't do any skills, just answer the phone and chart all day. I take care of a physician not patients!

So I applied for a position at a local LTC, it's a night position (10p-6a) (I used to work nights as an aid at the hospital and loved it), they have med techs come in a 6a so I don't even have to do a med pass (just prns throughout the night), they pay alot more, which I need, and they offer good benefits and will help pay for RN school if I go. It sounds great to me, but I'm still worried, I will be responsible for 50-55 pts with 3 aides. I think I can do it, but after reading/hearing how hard lpns have it in LTC, I am worried that I am leaving a stable job for something I might reget.

Any comments/advice???

Missed your last post. See you tried it out. You are so lucky you got your old job back. Good luck. Anytime you get an urge to explore, do it on your days off so you can see what it is like!

You made the right choice going back to a good work environment!! Good for you, and best of luck.

Thanks for the support, wish I would have just listened to everyone in the first place, but like all my friends and my husband (after calming down) told me, I have a very different perspective after this experience and never would have really known for sure if I hadn't taken the leap. I am just so thankful that I got my job back and everyone has welcomed me back with open arms! I can't believe my luck! My husband was just worried and stressed, but he has been very supportive and understanding since.

This has also made me question if I want to get my RN. Even in the hospital I am going to be expected to push meds when I don't feel comfortable, and deal with some of the same issues won't I? I feel like now, I don't ever want to leave my comfy cozy office job again!

But you can have your comfy cozy office job with an RN license which is a better backup for life's unexpected events. Do one of those distance programs so that you don't have to leave your job to attend school. Just a thought.

Thanks for the idea...they don't have very many openings for RN's in this clinic, but there are a few in OB and IV infusion.
