Doesn't it just drive you insane when someone tells you that Mr. Smith's O2 STAT is 96%?

It's O2 SAT people! Sat, short for saturation. I even hear respiratory therapists saying this. I am sooooo tempted to say something next time, but I know it's just petty, so I needed to vent here. Thank you.

I hated English class. :chuckle:chuckle:chuckle

Why take a class when I learned more by reading???

I loved my literature classes . .. . and did well in English. Hated math.

Typical girl.

So, Stan; would bubbler be unacceptable(instead of water fountain) ? If so, that would really tick off a lot of hoosiers, buckeyes etc.

Living in Indiana was absolute torture. Even the grammar in Texas was better. :chuckle:chuckle:chuckle:chuckle

It is natural for separate groups to develop differing languages. Technically their usage is correct for their dialect. As far as English is concerned, sadly even I am incorrect because English is not spoken anymore. We all honestly speak varying dialects that veer from standard English and in some areas I would venture to say it isn't even English.

It would be like Spanish. People believe that every Hispanic country speaks Spanish but technically Spain utilizes Castillian. Castillian is the original Spanish. The other countries speak different dialects to be sure. Some of them amount to different languages. People that learn Mexican 'Spanish' can barely understand Castillian...

I can't believe you ,quad lingualist hated English.

I know that" typical girl "thought used to hold water, but believe boys in math & science class were treated with more respect and expectations from the mostly male teachers,et so scored better,& most girls just gave in,scoring lower. feel this is no longer true

No lie. Learned Spanish in my teens due to necessity. I lived on the border of Mexico. I learned Arabic and Farsi in the Army.

I am a big endorser of self-teaching. I have never been big on 'organized' education. College is so over-done. I am only in college now because there are no RN diploma programs near me.

I taught myself spanish for 2 yr's.Did take conversational spanish at UW as adjunct. conjugation was the most trying for me, I decided to take it as I was working in a mexican fam. owned restaurant, thought it'd be helpful. Funny how they began to stifle their speech around me when I gave them these sardonic smiles,(they knew I was a student!)all in allthough, very worth while. Also within my next nursing job,w/ spanish speaking pt's.I agree w/ you re: college learning, but it's the only option sometimes!!!!bty, refreshme ,what is farsi? is it akin to togalong?(sp)

Persian Farsi - It's what they speak in Iran and some other places. Not all of the Middle East speaks Arabic. There is also Urdu and some other languages.

If I was perfect, especially at 1 in the morning, I would be a billionaire.

Arabic isn't a race. It is only a language. The people are semitic but they are all different ethnicities, related through intermingling over hundreds and thousands of years.

Just like Hispanic. I hate when people say their race is Hispanic. It isn't a race, just a general label for people of that descend from 'Spanish' cultures. People that call themselves Hispanic are really a mixture of races that usually include Caucasian and African.
