Hi everyone Im new here, so any help is appreciated.
I have discovered in nursing school that I have a latex allergy. Anyone else out there that is a nurse with a latex allergy that I can talk to. Is it possible for me to still be a nurse functioning as a on the floor nurse, not just in research

I too have a latex allergy and I have been working in the field for over 23 years. I am about to graduate with my RN. The hospital I work at says it is latex free however, we occassionally find things like bandaides and stuff that is not latex free. I also have to be careful with the hand sanitizers they also rip my hands apart and make them blister badly. Luckily it has all just been like a contact dermititis reaction. I did work with a nurse one time who never knew she was allergic, had a bout of SOB and when they went to put her IV in she coded and turned bright red at the site and broke out in hives...well she was allergic to latex. They tell me that the more you work around it like in the hospital OR and stuff the more likely you will form some sort of reaction to it. Not sure how true that is but I know it started bothering me about 7 years ago.
