As Nurses, we've all probably been late a time or two. 30 feet of snow, car trouble, sick children, no babysitter ... the list goes on. But, potholes in the parking lot of the hospital? I can hear the Nurse supervisor now. You were late because of what??? So, what's your best excuse for being late for work?

I was late last week because I was attempting and failing to teach my daughter how to insert a tampon for the first time.
I think it was my first time in 16 years I've ever been late as a nurse. And I didn't tell them why...I just told them I'm sorry and said it was "mom stuff."
Thankfully she figured it out that night when I pulled up some pages in "The Care and Keeping of You." Sometimes illustrations are better than your RN mom's words and weird charades.

I'm with you, SmilingBlueEyes! It is rude and inconsiderate to be chronically late!
Chronically late People have three things in common:
1. They're always smiling.
2. They spend a long time, even though they're late, at the time clock, looking at the schedule.
3. They come to work without an ink pen, never expecting to need one!
One of the chicks I work with is ALWAYS late, never reprimanded, and this has led to a real messed up comprehension of reality. Here's the most recent "excuse": she called saying that she wouldn't be in until 1pm, shift starts at 11am. When she arrived at 12:20pm she said "I'm actually early because I wasn't going to be able to make it until 1pm..." I'm not sure how long I just stood there, frozen, wondering "how could someone's mind be so void of any reality or concern for her coworkers?" How does someone get to the point where they have lied to themselves for So long that they think others are as deceived as they are?

Same here. Even a dead snake on the shoulder of the road is enough to spook me. My phobia of snakes has been with me for as long as I can remember.
I'm glad it's Winter...locally, this means snake season doesn't begin until late March/early April.
