Hi everyone!! I am currently in my 2nd to last semester of nursing school at Tidewater Community College, and had some questions about my last semester (starting in January 2010, whooo hooo!), so hopefully some of you out there who've gone thru it can help me out!! I know there's 4 classes to take, Nur 272 and Nur 273 that have been 8 week classes just like we've been doing, but what's the deal with Nur 255 and 274? They're 16-week classes, but do BOTH of them have clinicals too? Just wondering, trying to plan ahead because I work during the week, and if we have 3 clinical days now instead of just 1 like I'm used to, I'm going to have to make some drastic changes! :-) Any advise is greatly appreciated!

NUR 255 is a management class and has no clinicals.
NUR 274 is a community service based class--you will have to do 40 hours of service at a school, nursing home, clinic, etc. It's kind of like a clinical, but the schedules are more flexible and depending on where you're assigned, you could probably set most of your hours to suit your schedule. Though keep in mind that not all sites offer evening and/or weekend hours.
Heads up: 274 is the class that drives everyone to tears--not the service itself, but the assignments you will have to do.
Thanks Meriwhen! That's what I had thought, but somebody was telling us that we would have clinicals for both! But I have to ask, what kind of assignments do they have us do in 274, especially if (gulp) they're gunna drive me to tears?! thanks a bunch!
I'll send you more information in PM as I can't post names
All I'll say here is that follow the assignments EXACTLY. Don't make the mistake of assuming that you won't need to do any of the small stuff or that you and/or your group knows better. Even if it's small and stupid, do it!
Thanks so much for all the info!! I really appreciate it, it's nice to have a heads up!! I'm just trying to figure out what to do about my job, I work about 22 hours a week now, and it's starting to wear me out, and all I'm taking now is 270!! I'm thinking that I'm probably not going to be able to swing that next semester , with all the extra presentations and papers and community service, plus case studies (grrrr, do we still have to do those?!?) and clinicals and everything!!
Anyway, thanks again!
case studies (grrrr, do we still have to do those?!?)
Depends on who your clinical instructor is...most of them won't make you do a case study after 270 so hopefully you'll get lucky and land one of those.
