Last name on namebadge

Does anyone else think it is a bad idea to have your last name on a badge? I worked at a place where we had an extremely abusive spouse who cornered most of the staff, and could only visit w/ a police escort. We did not have our last names on our badges @ this particular facility, thankful because this person used to say "if I find out where you live"..... Anyway the place I work now uses first and last names, I do not agree w/ this, since many times a pt will say something like "oh you're a ( last name) did you grow up in (town) or (last name) hey baby are you in the phone book? it's scary sometimes that people know my entire name. Any thoughts on this?:uhoh3:

This discussion reminds me of a DON I met long ago. Her name badge had the name "They" on it....as in "they say", "they do", etc. She also had a nice picture of Tom Cruise as her name badge picture. She said hardly anyone ever commented on it!

Love this !! when I was a nursing director, I used to introduce myself to new staff as "Cxxxxxx, otherwise known as "they". When you hear people say 'they' it's often 'me'. I want you to associate a face with that name, and to feel free to question me when you disagree with something "they" said to do" :D

My hospital has First and Last on badges EXCEPT if youre in the ED or Psych..which i think is dumb/unfair. Id rather NOT have my last name on there b/c i have already (in nursing school!!) had issues with patients outside of the hospital...imagine what its like to know a severely unstable schizophrenic knows where you live and what your phone number is....and calls you.

I feel first name is suitable, and if its needed then give a last name, but no point to it otherwise.
