LaSalle Achieve 2nd Degree Students

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I was wondering if anyone on here is currently in the Lasalle Achieve program as a 2nd Degree student or if anyone is planning on applying to this program. How is/was your experience? I have to take 7 prereq's, A&P 1 and 2, Microbiology, Stat, Chem, Religion and Philosophy. Where did anyone take their prereq classes? I know Lasalle suggests you take the classes with them, but I just can't afford it. I am planning on taking them at CCP. Any recommendations on teachers to take or avoid? For maths and sciences I do best with teachers who are very organized and clear with their lectures and notes. Other than that what has your experience been like so far? Is anyone working full time while attending this program? Any information or suggestions would be really helpful. I apologize if there is another place for me to post this or look for this information, I looked for Lasalle in the colleges section but didn't see it.

Hello!

I don't live in your area, nor do I know anything about LaSalle... BUT... here are my two cents.

You should be able to take all of your pre-requisites at your local community college or state university (colleges are much cheaper). Then, if you want move on to the college/university of your choice for the nursing degree. Private schools, obviously, will charge considerably more, but you usually get in faster (no waiting time). If your local community college does not have a long (more than a year) waiting period, I would stick with them.

Private schools are big on accelerated programs, but let me tell you... they are tough !!! & you wont realize it until you have a few core classes under the belt and too much money spent on them. You cannot transfer credits for core classes, only pre-requisite credits are transferable... so make your decision very carefully.

Go to Rate My Professors | Find and rate your professor, campus and more - RateMyProfessors.com to look up the college of your choice, then look up the instructors. Read as many reviews as you can... there are always a few people who are angry or happy about a professor, but they end up being the exception to the rule. Pay attention to the totality of reviews. Remember, no one is perfect, we are all humans. If you have to take a class with someone who got low scores, do. You might just be pleasantly surprised. Besides, it is only temporary... do what you are asked to do, study, and move on.

Hope this helps. Good luck to you with your studies!

I will be applying to LaSalle's Achieve program for fall 2013. I've finished most (or all) of my prereqs, but I'm waiting on my grades for my summer class to post and be more up to date. I'm from and go to school in North New Jersey, I don't know of any professors at CCP. I'm going to wait until October or November to take the NLN though, I need time to study. This school is pretty much near the top of my list of nursing schools I want to attend. It's cheaper than all the other I've been researching and I can actually work during it! That's something that's important to me. Anyway, good luck with your prereqs and applying to LaSalle!

I am starting La Salle this month. I took my pre-reqs at CCP and you do NOT have to take them at La Salle. As far as teachers to take at CCP. I'm not sure I am allowed to post their names on here.
