LaSalle Achieve Fall 2012

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those of us who are starting at LaSalle's PT evening and weekend program this fall. I was accepted a few weeks ago, and I'm currently working on my compliance forms. Any one else in the same boat? Congrats and looking forward to meeting you!

Hey there - I just saw this today, and emailed you. I'd love to meet up too!

Coco

we have a time scheduled for our first meet up!!!

if you're interested, please email me for the date and time. i would like to schedule at least one more of these before the semester begins just in case you can't make the first one. my email address is [email protected]. thanks!

Has anyone been marked compliant on the American DataBank site yet? My profile says "Confirmed - Not Compliant" even though the compliance officer verified that I am.

I got confirmation today that I am Confirmed-Compliant. In the notes section up top has what they still need. It kept saying my CPR was not there but I had to call and let them know what document it was under aka KRD CPR Signed. They are fairly helpful at American Data Bank.

I am so glad I will be starting with you all this fall!

Hello All. I am trying to get the hang of this site but I will be starting this fall as well and I am very excited. Good luck to you all!!:yeah:

Hi,

If there are any current or past Achieve program people on here, can anyone comment on whether it's possible to eek by with older editions of some of the textbooks? Specifically, the clinical calculations book and the Fundamentals Success test taking book.

Thanks!

Yes you can. The only book I'd recommend staying current with is the med-surg book used across your 3 med-surg classes (they like to take questions directly out of there). If you have Altmiller for fundamentals, just augment her powerpoints/lecture with any book that breaks down the basics. If you have Matecki, you can just get away with powerpoints and lecture for her tests. If you have Kavanagh, read the book and teach yourself the concepts because while she teaches very useful clinical information, her tests don't match up with her lectures/powerpoints at all. Good luck!

Has anyone started ordering their textbooks? I know I should shop around for deals, but I want to make sure I have the right codes/DVD/CD accompaniments with my textbooks if I need them. Here are the "required" items:

Clinical Calculations Made Easy

Fundamentals Success with CD

Fundamentals of Nursing with DVD and Study Guide

Clinical Simulations for Nursing Education

I-Clicker 2

Nursing Kit

Do we SERIOUSLY need all of this stuff? What is an I-Clicker?

lostinthesauce, I'm holding off on ordering books until after orientation when I can get some clarification on some of the stuff. I'm wondering if it's possible to share books if anyone is willing. The one book is all about critical thinking and test taking. I went to La Salle for grad school and overdosed on critical thinking so I feel pretty confident in that area and I'm a teacher and therefore have been indoctrinated in the art of test taking.

An i-clicker is a way to respond to questions in the classroom without raising your hand. You just use your clicker to respond. It's a feedback system for the educator, essentially.

That's a good idea. My thinking is that I can always return the books if I find out at orientation that I don't need them.

I know some ebooks are available if anyone's into those. They're a bit cheaper than paper copies. I personally hate ebooks, but that's another cheaper option.

I used something called responseware on my ipod before and while its useful, unless a professor knows how to set up the codes, its pointless.

Since I spent a whole lot on ebooks from my previous program, I am not buying any books lol I got 34 books to use and there are very little differences so unless absolutely necessary, I will not buy anymore!
