LaSalle Achieve Fall 2012

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those of us who are starting at LaSalle's PT evening and weekend program this fall. I was accepted a few weeks ago, and I'm currently working on my compliance forms. Any one else in the same boat? Congrats and looking forward to meeting you!

Thats great! Having already done a clinical, they are fun. The hands on part is much better than the classroom part haha

Oh also Life Uniform sometimes has good deals on supplies, shoes etc. my shoes are really comfortable and I got them half off.

I went to the fitting today. The shirts were pretty standard collared shirts so I'm assuming we have to order them because they have to have La Salle monogrammed onto them. The scrub pants were Landau. They were the 5 pocket cargo pants. They're available online. The pair they had at the fitting were 'classic' fit but online they have a 'modern' and a 'natural' fit as well if you're like me and don't like wearing your pants at the waist. I think the pricing is pretty much the same online vs. Flynn and O'Hara but I haven't done much digging for now.

Kathleen, thanks for the link. I'm going to check it out.

mxb164, I talked to Kristin yesterday at the fitting and she said the items on the order sheet that have "NA" next to them can be purchased somewhere else. All other items have to be purchased from Flynn & O'hara. Don't ask me why! That said, if you're going to buy navy pants from someplace else, I would definitely check with her first.

Thanks for the info, lostinthesauce. I'm going to go recheck the list!

For the items such as the stethoscope, pen light, shoes I do suggest getting them elsewhere. I went to one of the stores today and ordered my shirts and jacket, so happy that I get to wear the exact same pants lol Life Uniform has the Cherokee pants (or they were Cherokee at the Flynn and O'Hara I was at) for a little cheaper. Even the girl from Flynn said to get the pants and white t-shirt elsewhere.

La Salle May 2012 graduate here - first off, congrats to all on getting into the program! It really is a good school with some great professors (big shoutouts to Dee Matecki and Gerry Altmiller!).

As far as penlights go - don't buy one yet. You have to buy a $100 clinical bag for your 307 clinical, and it comes with a LOT of goodies (including penlight, BP cuff, and a bunch of items you'll need for your clinical tests throughout school). Definitely get a stethoscope (Littman ftw), a watch with a second hand, and a COMFY pair of shoes (Danskos are pretty fabulous if you feel like spending the money). I also highly recommend getting the Saunders NCLEX book - it breaks down the subjects in a manner that is far easier to process than the giant textbooks.

Best of luck to you all and congrats on getting into La Salle! :nurse:

Thanks so much!! I ordered a Littman stethoscope online and a penlight, too, since I was already shopping. Glad to know about the clinical bag, though. Congrats on graduating!!

Hey everyone,

If you're interested in an informal meetup before classes start, please email me at [email protected], and I will add you to my email list. I would like to find a few more people before selecting a date and venue.

I'm thinking of us meeting for tea/coffee (most likely in Center City) some evening to discuss whatever's on our minds about this journey we're all about to begin. We can discuss uniforms, clinicals, study tips, balancing work, family, and school, etc. I think it will help with pre-semester jitters. :-)
