Lansing Community College 2016 role call

U.S.A. Michigan

Hi all. I am applying to the Nursing program at LCC traditional 2 year track for 2016. I am anxious and wanted to converse with others in the same boat.

YAY! So happy for you and for everyone else who made it in.

It's an incredible journey. It will be filled with laughter, frustration, tears and joy. There's no way to explain what it's like without having to actually go through it. If any of you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask me. I've been through it at LCC and I always appreciated the nurses who went before me that lent a helping hand when I had questions. I'm more than happy to help anyone. Just send me a PM though this site.

In fact, we started a group of AllNurses students when we started and we're all still great friends even after graduation. I work with 2 of them on my unit at Sparrow now :D I'm sure I'll be seeing some of you during clincals. Our unit usually has the final semester NURS 285 students.

When you're ready to buy text books, look online for them. I saved a ton of money buying my books through Amazon instead of going to Gibsons or SBS. My original shipment of textbooks was over 50 pounds!

I would also suggest getting a good clipboard that allows you to store papers inside it. It comes in handy for clinicals. I got one with a built in calculator so I could calculate drip rates quickly. Highlighter markers are your friend :)

So excited for you all to begin your journey. I loved -----------------(your NURS 150 instructor). She was one of my favorites from the program. You are lucky to get to have her for your foundations course. She's the best!

You are already such a life saver with all of these tips!! Everything you have recommended thus far is going on my to-buy list before school starts. I am so excited to finally begin this journey towards my career but I still am somewhat nervous! I think you are so right that its difficult to explain until you go through it, I guess we will all have to see for ourselves!

It is so nice to have someone who has recently completed LCC's program, so willing to help the rest of us and give advice/pointers when you can. I really appreciate it and I'm sure everyone else does too!

I got accepted into the 2nd degree accelerated track starting in the fall! Congrats everyone! I'm happy to hear we all got good news today! I can't figure out how to send the acceptance form back to --------------- though. My computer said you cant save changes made to it. Has anyone else had this problem?

I just printed it and filled it out by hand, I then used tinyscan on my iphone to take a pic that scans it and attached it to an email to -----------------. Tinyscan isfree and creates a PDF out of pics.

Thank god for the Internet or else who knows how long the letters may take! Should I start a Facebook group for LCC 2016 nursing students?!

Lansing mail takes the longest

Have you all received acceptance contracts yet? I haven't received mine yet, but emailed the selective admission's admin. I am about to log into facebook and find you all on there

They usually post a list of all accepted students by the last 4 digits of your student ID. The contract is also on the same page. Looks like last year's info is still up.

Hi SopranoKris,

I am looking at buying some books for the program as there are current mew LCC grads selling their books right now.

~Fundamentals of nursing 2nd edition

~calculation of drug dosages 9th edition

~jarvis physical exam & health assessment 6th edition

~davis Laboratory diagnostic test with nursing implications 5th edition

~med surg nursing 7th edition

~Fundamentals success a Q&A review

~APA format book

~The clicker for lecture

~GAIT BELT

I was wondering if this is a good lot of the books that will be needed at least for the first part of the program?

Is there any other books that would be needed?

Is any of this in the lab kits we will need to purchase?

Sorry for so many questions but you are very knowledgeable and I can tell you know what you're talking about :)

Yep, we used all of those. Plus you'll need the Med Surg study guide, maternity, pediatrics, mental health and ECG book. You'll also need a good nursing diagnosis book based on NANDA-I

I also found the pocket guide that accompanies the Jarvis text was great to have during clinicals

Just a note, no rush on the books for maternity, Peds, mental health & ECG. They change books and you don't want to be stuck with the wrong one. They changed the Peds text the semester after I took graduated, so the student that was going to buy all my old books still had to go buy a new one.

Buying from another student is a great way to get them for less. I also got good deals on Amazon, both new & used.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your help and insight í ½í¸€
