Langara January 2018

Published

Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has thought about applying for the Jan 2018 intake yet? I'm finishing up my second A&P credit, as well as Stats, and currently am sitting at a 3.5 GPA with the 2 English and 1st A&P prereqs. Worst case, with the two final classes, it will drop down to between 3.4-3.3. I do have a Bachelor's in Psych and English, but my GPA from that was far less than stellar, so I'm hoping they don't look into those grades at all.

I'm panicking a bit though, as I don't have many options aside from Langara. I didn't plan on nursing at all up until like last year (hooray for useless Arts Degrees), so I don't have volunteer hours or any of the high school pre-reqs like Chem and Math. Also, I can't afford to wait any longer to get this going.

Does anyone know the GPA cutoff for the last few intakes? I keep reading that nothing less than 3.6 will get in, and if by some miracle I ace Stats and A&P II, I'll barely hit that at 3.67.

I hope that the presence of a degree will help but this high GPA cutoff has me really nervous.

Any and all answers are appreciated :)

Hey Everybody,

Hopefully we can close the gap and see where the GPA cut-off seems to be for the Spring 2018 intake.

I just got an email a few hours ago and was waitlisted. I believe my GPA on the 5 courses was 3.27 (going to re-do the math now to doublecheck).

I was also waitlisted for Fall 2017 and am still currently on the wait list with the same GPA. Will be re-applying in October for next year if I dont get in along with applying to BCIT and UBC.

I lied! My GPA was 3.32 and I was waitlisted tonight :( I wasn't expecting to be accepted with my current GPA and am currently enrolled in two English classes to try and up my GPA for the next intake.

Has anyone applied to the Nursing Transition Program (LPN access)? I applied to both and I have a 3.9 GPA yet I was waitlisted for the Bachelor Degree program. Anyone have a similar situation or perhaps shed any light on NTP acceptance? Tanks!!!

The nursing transition program is apparently really competitive as they have only around 6 seats available (don't quote me on that). Is that 3.9 GPA cumulative or based on the 5 prerequisites?

Based on the prereqs.

Based on the prereqs.

Hmm, I can't think of a reason why you would be waitlisted. I would call Langara Admissions and see if they can give you a reason. Best of luck!

Yes! Youre right! I have taken all my prereqs in VCC, and i unfortunately had to retake the two bio's and two english! But now i got in with a 3.4 flat, iam still shocked! So, i do not think it really matters which institution you did prereq's just gotta have an amazing gpa!

That's really tough to retake two bio and two English. Feeling sorry for your suffering. I only retook bio2. If I had taken that bio2 with the bio1 pro, I didn't need to retake bio2. I favor my bio1 pro's teaching style even though many of his students don't. When I retook bio2, I followed him again. He is quite charming so I learnt better.

I found good instructors of biology and chemistry at vcc usually have PHD. This doesn't apply to psychology pros. Math instructors are generally good.

Hello Glen,

Congratulations!!

Were you previously waitlisted or did you get an offer off acceptance right away? My GPA is 3.27 and I am still waitlisted.

I got acceptance right away!

I got acceptance right away!

Amazing! So very excited for you and everybody else that has been accepted so far, I hope to join you as well, fingers crossed. :)

I just got accepted off the waitlist with a 3.33__ (apparently they calculate to the 4th decimal place). Best of luck to those still on it, have hope! And to my future school mates, see you guys next year :)
