Langara College, Vancouver: Nursing Students

World Canada CA Programs

Published

hi,

i got accepted into the sept 2007 program. how many of you are nursing students or pre nursing students in langara? and those who graduated or are current students - any tips on the courses, professors, practicum, books, tuition etc.?

come out, come out, wherever u are! :D

hey guys, quick question, last week, i called the langara admissions clerk, and she told me that I got accepted and have a spot for the upcoming September intake for nursing.

Now, today I got a email for langara saying that my application status is waitlist rollover.

What does that mean ? i have to wait for the next intake than ?

that doesn't make any sense at all

Specializes in Acute Spine, Neuro, Thoracic's, LTC.

I just got a email from them saying that I am on "waitlist rollover" now too. Not sure what that means.....Anyone??

lilaclover, are u expected a spot for the upcoming sept ?

also are u taking any bio 1190 or biomedical ethics at the moment ?

hey lilaclover, i called ****** from Langara, she is in charge of nursing applications. rollerover means, we were expected for the January intake but they have a spot for us in sept. so that means we are in for SEPT, i confirmed with her, she will send out confirmations this week, once we accept the program. She will send out the documents.

Yehhhh:) finally after 2 years of waitlisting.

Congrats !!!!!

Awesome!!! I have been waiting about 2 years now too!! Congrats to you as well!!

to all the students in term 2 or higher (or even graduated):

i'm in Term 1 and my SPA is coming up... please give me some advice and tell me how it is! i'm a nervous wreck, and today in lab class the partner i decided to practice with was totally all over the place: not following the TPR BP Apical format we're going to be going w/ for the SPA... so it messed me up. also was talking/moving/laughing with others while I was trying to assess her radial rate. and when 30 seconds passed, instead of allowing me to assess her respiration, she'd jump up and be like OKAY DONE.

please someone give me some advice. i've gotten through this huge courseload so far, i don't want the SPA bringing me down... any advice is going to be eternally grateful. (also yes, i've rented out a sphygmo already, going to again next week and going to open lab to practice some more... anything else i could do?

Hey Everyone, my name is Ian, and I just got accepted into Langara nursing for Sept 2011. Excited to start!

I used to be a student at UBC and was part way through my degree there. I was wondering if you guys think it would be do-able to study an addition 3-6 credits at UBC per term, in addition to studying full-time at Langara College for Nursing. It would be great if I could finish it at the same time I do my nursing degree at Langara, but would like to know what you guys' take is.

Also I was also looking through the curriculum at Langara for the nursing program, and some of the courses say there will be an addition 1-2 hours for a WWW component. Any idea what this is?

Thanks!

Ian

Ian,

Classes generally are on Monday, Thursday and Friday with Tuesday and Wednesday as clinical days. Term 5 and 8 are an exception as they are your consolidated practice experiences so you only have clinical which is on Monday-Wed. Monday night is usually research on your client(s) for the next two days. I don't really see when you can take extra classes while doing the nursing program unless they are all distance ed and you are really strict about staying current with your studies.

The extra 1-2 hours www is participating in discussions on blackboard, doing online pharm quizzes, uploading journals.

Erik, that sounds pretty intense, I can't wait to start term 1 in September, hopefully i will be able to manage and balance my schedule around.

Btw, are there alot of presentations and group projects in term 1 ?

thanks

i'm in term 1 right now, and i can honestly say i can't wait till march 1st rolls around.

this upcoming week i have a midterm monday, midterm wednesday and essay due thursday. this doesn't include your daily readings (which i'm one of the few who keeps up to date with them....)

for projects, there's only 2.. one small one you do alone but film with a partner, and a bigger group project (not due till march 24). i'd say the projects are the easiest part.

Hey Erik,

Thanks for your quick reply! Is Term 1 and 2 very homework intensive? How many hours do you spend studying outside class time on average a day? I actually live pretty far away from the college as well, and i'm also trying to figure out whether it would be a good idea to rent a place near by. If I commute, it's like 1.5 hrs back and forth everyday day.

are my evenings typically occupied? I could probably do night courses.

Ian
