Landing a job in hospital after stipulations

Published

Hello! I was placed on monitoring for a year that includes every 3 months a nurse performance evaluation because I was arrested at 18 for a misdemeanor but it was deferred, however the board still put stipulations for my license (nothing related to drug use) . I took my NCLEX in February and passed, started work at a SNF in april because all the hospitals I applied to said I didn't get the job (I think because of the stipulations). I still have 9 months of monitoring but I was wanting to see if there is hope to get into a hospital when this is all over. I'm a licensed registered nurse in Texas. My dream is to work obgyn (L&D or Postpartum) because I wish to become a womens health nurse practitioner.. I've read some people say they had a hard time getting into a hospital after the stips were off so I wanted to see if anyone had a good outcome after being board ordered. Thank you so much for your time in reading this and replying.. I appreciate it!

You only need a year of experience. You only have 9 months left (I realize that sucks but I want you to consider that 9 months in the larger scheme is relatively small).

Get the year of experience and your stips behind you. Then see what you can do. It has been well-discussed that there are some medical shortage areas where new nurses/nurses with limited acute care experience can get jobs. I will tell you that here in the NTX, this does not exist (we have a shortage of hospitals willing to train new nurses, not a nursing shortage).

If you really want OB/GYN, join that specialty group's national organization. Find out what classes/training would make you more attractive. Look at the public hospitals - JPS and Parkland up here might be willing to train a nurse with some unrelated experience. It is also possible that some of our southern/central/Red River area hospitals will be more interested in giving you your shot.

Don't borrow trouble. Worry does not move you forward. Hang in there!!

Nope. My advice is based on the sum total of wisdom acquired manually and from these pages.

I wouldn't apply too many place with black marks on your license or a monitoring program. I feel like once thats on a hospitals file for your name you're screwed forever with that employer.
