Lack Of Communication!!!

Published

I am a new grad nurse. I interview in mid Feb for a day shift med-surg position. Anyhow, to make the long story short, I started orientation last Monday and was just informed on Friday, March 21 that orientation to my unit is 5 days a week/8 hour shifts. My problem is this.. I was never told during my interview that orientation was 5 days a week x 8 hr shifts. I just assumed that I would get precepted 3 days a week x 12 h. Now I don't have daycare. I talked to the nurse manager and she said that HR should've told me. I asked if I could do 3 days a week and perhaps extend my orientation but she said if they brake the rules for me they'd have to do it for everyone. Now I'm stuck with trying to find daycare at the last minute. I just don't think this is fair. If I had known back in Feb. this would've given me ample time to get daycare. Any advice?

who's in the phone book?

any friends with recommendations or able to help?

any day care at a university setting?

i'm sorry you're going through this, mimi.

i can't help think that communication lacked on both sides.

why would you assume that orientation would be (3) 12's?

i hope you can work something out.

best of everything.

orientations i've always known have been one week of hospital orientation mon-fri 8:00 - 5:00 and then how ever many weeks required, working the usual 3 - 12's that you'll be working.

i'm not understanding why they didn't explain and why you didn't ask? seems you're both at fault. i understand it still sux. you'll have to either give up the position or quickly find some responsible child care. best of luck hon. that's a difficult situation to be in.
