lack of motivation

I am down to my last quarter of nursing school and I am so burnt out or losing interest! I have no motivation and I don't know what to do. I need to start studying more and better so I don't end up failing or barely hanging on. Please any advice someone can give me about keeping myself motivated, even any study tips. :smackingf

Thanks Jenna

No advice here, just empathy. I'm down to my last few weeks and am completely burned out. What keeps me going is just thinking about starting my first job and starting on my way to becoming an independent nurse. Also that after graduation I'll finally have time for things I want to do- like read non-nursing related books!!!

I can empathize, because the last semester of my med tech program I was completely burned out also. This might sound bad, but I just focused on doing the minimum necessary to pass my classes and prepare for my certification exam. I gave myself plenty of opportunities to spend time with friends and classmates who would be moving away after graduation. I don't regret that choice to this day.

It might be that more time spent relaxing will actually bring your grades up, because you will have more energy when you do choose to study. Starting a countdown might also keep you motivated to push through to the end.

Good luck!

We go to school year round in my program and I am burnt out too. I started reading for pleasure again. I only read a chapter if I have a lot to do, but somehow it is enough to relax and remotivate me. Best of luck to you.

Hey Jenna,

YOu have put in a lot of energy to get this far! Hang on. What are you doing with your time while you are not studying?? why dont you try to use that time to do something good for you, unrelated to school? For example, if you are plopping on the couch watching the tube, make yourself a nice warm bath, and a cup of tea. Sit in the tub and relax. You need to give yourself some "you" time, and if you havent, you very well may be burning out.

I am not sure what you are studying now, is it boring you? do you just not like it?

Along with everything that goes into school, we all need to remember to make time for ourselves.

Go for a walk, take a night off from studying, go out to dinner.

I have found that if I schedule "me" time, I dont feel like all I do is study.

One thing that I have found though, is if I tell people I am taking time for me during a certain period, everyone wants that time. So I usually tell everyone I am studying, and then jump in the tub.

Hang in there hun, you are almost done. Bless you and good luck. :)

My worst time for me was my second year. I'm sure that I cant remember much of it. I had never felt so low, and non motivated. I'm in my third yr now and will be finishing July 06.

I think that when you not studying you should have a complete break ie cinema, gym, dancing (I recently started salsa for fun), reading for pleasure is a fab idea, and long baths by candle light is very relaxing. You need the 'me' time.

Have you thought about things like reflexology or massage to help you relax. Accupunture is supposed to be really good for stress as well. I'm going to try it I think, I like what I have read about it so far. These will give you that complete break from studying so that when you return to it you should be more focused.

With regards to studying, I find it helps if I make a plan (or a list of what needs doing) then I can work through the list one at a time. And try not to go off on one (which I only did last night, lol) stay focused on the one task that you have given yourself. I feel much better when I have completed something off my list, or plan.

Good luck honey, hang on in there your nearly finished

Oh how I remember that. I graduated in May, I had had so many personal problems the last 6 months of school (very close family members dying one was 18 and had a child - car accident) I had studied my butt off all the way through school, but come my senior year I was burnt out with everything.

Honestly - I tried to study, but it didn't ever turn out as I had hoped it to. I ended up not doing too incredibly good (b-) in my senior year, but because of the work I had done prior to that I still graduated with honors (which is all I cared about anyway).

Just keep pluggin away at it, do what you can to get by and you will be done soon.
