How did you get in your job as a maternity nurse with no experience?
I work at a hospital where you bid for positions and it goes based on seniority so there isn't really much I can do other than apply. Just curious about how you got your foot in the door. Eventually, I am willing to change hospitals or state to get the opportunity.

If you're willing to move, you have an excellent shot at just about any specialty. L& D has never been my thing, but my strategy would be to broaden my search to other locations if it were.
Good luck!

I made contacts with as many people as I could during clinical rotations and kept in touch. I made sure they knew from the start that this was exactly what I wanted to do. Networking is what helped me get the job. It sounds like your already out of school so I would say try and meet nurses and managers in the unit you want to be on, reach out and show interest!

I stayed in my area but applied to lesser known residency program. I'm from California, so hospitals like UCLA, Kaiser, and Cedars are super competitive and almost impossible to get into.
I signed up for job alerts on job boards like indeed and Glassdoor and got an email one day about an L&D residency at a lesser known hospital that was close to where I live. I was familiar with the hospital, I had even been there when my cousin was a pt, but it had never occurred to me to apply there. I didn't even know they had a residency program.
It worked out great since less people know about it, there were fewer applicants to compete against. I'm leaning SO MUCH and my pay is the same as the big name hospitals everyone is fighting to get into.
