Labcoat?

There's no reason why you shouldn't.
However, most nurses I've seen do it were sort of pretentious. One guy in particular springs to mind and you couldn't tell some of the old ladies we had as patients that he wasn't a doctor. Some weren't pretentious though and I think it was more of a style issue for them, I think they just wanted to look tidy.

I would hope noone would think that about me. I will wear one because I will be proud to be a nurse.

I wore one, once. I was getting towards the end of my pregnancy and NOTHING fit me. :lol2: I wore solid color maternity Tee shirts so I didn't have to buy new scrub tops. I did not want to go out and buy new jackets to wear for only a month or so, so I picked up whatever I could find that fit me at a thrift shop. I found a white Lab coat that fit. The maintenance man accussed me of trying to be a doctor wanna-be. :angryfire Im not really sure if he was joking or not. I did not wear it afterwards. I am far from the pretentious type.

Just an interesting tidbit. In the LTC facility I used to work at, CNAs were not allowed to wear white *at all*, lest we be mistaken for RNs, though I did encounter one CNA that had been working there for awhile that was wearing a white labcoat.. I guess that rule was more of a 'tell you now so you won't, but won't bug you if you decide to anyway' kind of thing, sort of like the no-cell-phones rule. Anyway, that's just for us CNAs, RNs were allowed and some did.
