I think if you want to wear one whatever. Nursing is a profession, so why would we hold doctors higher than us saying we don't want to look like we are trying to be a doctor, we do most of the work anyway. I am not trying to sound rude but I think that we should do what ever is in the lines of our practice and wearing a labcoat is not out of line (wearing an arrogant attitude because you have one on is). I understand the underlying unwritten social rules of fitting in but I would wear one if it lookes professional.

They made us have one in Nursing School. It made me feel professional but it got in my way most of the time, unless I was cold then I would just roll up the sleeves. What do you think about "white coat syndrome."

I just Graduated in December and I have heard all of the similar stories. But they showed us a picture of the NG tube in the Brain. It was pretty severe, and they said it was because of the facial fractures.

I just Graduated in December and heard both of the stories about the wrong med in the central line. But they actually showed us a picture of the NG tube in the brain, and the aspirated contents was not GI but Cerebral fluid. She said she heard it gurggle with the air inserted to check placement.

I graduated in December and Passed my boards in February. I bartended my way through college and I noticed in my rotations that people would treat me like a waiter.."can you get this...Can you get that" and they were perfectly capable of doing it them selves. Or when they treat you like crap all shift long, and you will ask them questions and they act like you don't know anything. Then the doctor walkes in and they are just so happy to see them and tell them things they wont tell you. So then the doctor gets all flustered like "Uh, Why didn't you tell me or chart that." Or the Family member with the pen and your name and a stop watch...we all know them.
