LA General New Grad Program 2025

Published

Hey Everyone ,

I just received an offer from LA General, I haven't gotten the details pertaining to start date but I believe it will be in April from what I was told during my interview. I want to connect with anybody else that is set to start here keep each other updated!

The County hiring process is long. If you passed an exam you will stay on the list for one year. After one year you have to re-apply and go through the exam process again. I just went through the interview process at Harbor-UCLA. Before getting a decision on my interview I received an email last week stating that hiring at all LA County Dept of Health Services hospitals is suspended due to the federal budget cuts (this includes LA General). Then why accept applications and conduct examinations you ask? Because if the budget improves they can resume hiring at a later time.  If the budget was not an issue the next step after passing the exam would be to contact the nurse recruitment offices to inquire about open positions and where to send your resume and other documents.

Nursing recruiters emails
Los Angeles General Hospital:  [email protected] or (323) 409-4663

Harbor-UCLA: [email protected] or (424) 306-8640

If LA County is where you want to be, check the Dept of Mental Health or Dept of Public Health. They might still be hiring.

Hi I submitted my application and did the assessment. Was I supposed to submit documents over to the nursing recruitment email? All I was told was that I'm going the on the list. Any advice on what I should do?

I definitely recommend calling the nurse recruitment offices. The people at UCLA-Harbor are especially helpful. Yes you will have to email your resume, your exam results, and your nursing license verification to the recruitment office to be scheduled for an interview. I recommend calling first, and they will instruct you. Just keep in mind that with the federal budgets there is uncertainty on hiring. For me Harbor-UCLA was the fourth hospital that cancelled their new grad hiring.

I see I'll do that first thing when I get the chance! Thank you for your help!

How long do you guys think this hiring freeze will last?

It's hard to say. The best thing to do is call the nurse recruitment office. The hiring freeze for LA County Dept of Health Services jobs means no new positions. If someone quits, retires or is fired the dept can still fill that position regardless of the hiring freeze. If the position is not filled by end of the fiscal year (6/30/26) they lose funding for that unfilled position. It's a long shot because most people don't leave County jobs.

hi everyone, I have an upcoming interview with LA General for NICU in two days and I would love any insight or advice regarding their interview process and the type of questions they ask! I'll greatly appreciate it, thank you!
