Hello everyone, I am creating this post because I did not find a lot of information on the web regarding this topic. I recently passed the LA County exam for the RN I/RELIEF NURSE position, according to an email that was sent to me with my final score. However I am not sure about what to do to proceed with the possible hiring /interview process. I know that nursing managers are said to call based on whatever Band a person is placed on. With that in mind, does anyone know how long it usually takes for a hiring manager to call(for example if you're placed on BAND I)? Has anyone had experience with this? (I am looking forward to working for LAC+USC) ,Or if anyone can share any suggestions or things I should know I would appreciate it, thank you all.

@nalie2, thank you, are working for county right now? if so how are you liking it? is there opportunity for growth? im looking into doing outpatient clinics and plan on getting my FNP or Psych NP,am wondering if it will hurt me in the behind if I don't do hospital setting work.

@Badkugo yes I'm a current employee and I love it. Definitely opportunity for growth. LA County is huge so if you're unhappy in your position you can transfer to a different unit, different facility, etc. Outpatient clinics are definitely pretty light in workload which is where I'm at now. I started in bedside then transferred to clinic. I'm also in school for NP so it is perfect for me. I don't know if not having bedside experience will hurt you when it comes to NP. I have heard that it may help or hurt so I don't know about that.

@nalie2, so say for instance if I work in an outpatient unit I can transfer to a different clinic or to an inpatient position? My plan is to stick with LA County and advance in my education and hopefully work as an NP. thank you for responding to my questions , honestly my overall goal is to just work somewhere were I can learn more and be able to grow from there. So far I've heard green things about County and I cannot wait to see for myself. How are your hours? Are the clinics also 12hr shifts?3 days per week?

Hi all!

I was wondering if you could share a little more about the timeline (how long it takes for the application to be processed to the exam), and what kind of information applicants are tested on during the exam.

Please share whatever you feel comfortable sharing! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this message! I hope I'm not overstepping in any way! ?

@apragma525, I applied the first week of September and got an email to take the exam around mid December . so for me it took roughly 3 months for them to email me to take the exam. The exam that I took consists of personality questions and some deductive reasoning questions, in my opinion theres no way in studying for this exam.

@Badkugo Thank you so much! Do you mind me asking how long it took to get the exam results and be cleared to work for county after you took the exam?

@apragma525, the exam results I got 2 days later I believe . After that you receive your results and pass the exam you can call nurse recruitment to schedule any available appointments with them. After that im not sure how long it takes for them to clear you and get back to you. But from what I've heard it can take up to a couple months.

Hi there! I got my Results Dec 31 and emailed the LACUSC recruiters a week later. I attached my resume, LOR, and exam score. They will then tell you to reach out and call the recruiters office. The person who you will talk to is their clerk/assistant. They are super helpful and will tell you what unit openings they have available for you to interview. At that time, they had ICU, med/surg and 8 other clinic interviews open! Once they set up the interview they will ask you to turn in a cover letter, resume, and certificates. I interviewed last week and got offered the job 2 business days later.

Hi!

I was wondering if you could share a little more about the interview process-- did they ask medical/intervention questions? Or was it personality questions?

If you don't feel comfortable sharing, I totally understand! But thought it would be nice to reach out to see what your experience was like!

Thank you so much! ?

Hi everyone!
I've interviewed with 2 different county hospitals this week: one on Monday, and one on Thursday.

From browsing past forums, it sounds like people received job offers within 2-3 business days. If I don't hear from them within that time frame, should I assume I didn't get the position?

Thank you all!

@apragma525, it may or may not be a couple of days, depending on your unit or outpatient clinic. Some people get called a couple of days others get called within a few weeks. When I interviewed they told me to call back if I did'nt hear from them in a month. I got an offer in less than a week so maybe just depends how many people they're interviewing and how busy they are.

Hey everyone! I applied to LA County's RN I/Relief RN but I am not sure if I am eligible as I have two years experience in pediatrics. Should I apply for the RN II? I am trying to change specialities specifically adult ICU. Also does anyone have any tips to ace the test because I failed it last year. Thanks!

Same questions as @apragma525

would love to get some insight
