LA County College of Nursing LVN-RN Summer 2014

Published

Hello everyone!

I wanted to start a thread for those of us who applied to the Los Angeles County College of Nursing and Allied Health for the LVN-RN bridge Summer 2014 cohort. I took the TEAS V on 2/22/14 and I passed with the 5 bonus points! Yay! This is the only school I want to go to and really hope I get in otherwise I have to wait another semester since this is the ONLY school I applied to! yikes! So I am anxiously waiting for the acceptance letters to be sent out in mid-April! I am a little nervous since I have not worked as an LVN so I hope that my schooling has prepared me enough for this program! We will see!

Hi lovemy3boys,

Thank you! I'm not sure if they have notified anyone yet- not sure where in the process they are at. Don't know about the point cut off as well but from what they told us last semester is that there's s point cut off and whoever meets the requirements are sent an acceptance. But not everyone they sent an acceptance to decides to go to county so they send an extra letters and also place some on the wait list. Not sure if it applies to lvns. Summer schedule is only 5 weeks for the transition class. Basically were going over materials that we should know already as well as skills and also preparing us for 3rd semester. But you have to pass the transition class to move on to 3rd. Clinicals is great! I'm at ovmc so unfortunately it doesn't compare to lac. Some of my classmates that are at lac have done a lot of dressing changes for gsw. The instructors are really nice. They're really there to help you succeed. Hope that helps. Anymore question just let me know. :)

Also, since county is known for its reputation just be prepared cus there's a lot of work involved! I cut down my hours for work due to the work load. But it depends on you. Some of the LVN from last semester said they were all working full time. And I've seen them around so I'm pretty sure they're holding up. Just a heads up! Not trying to scare anyone. It's not an easy program and since we're skipping 2 semesters it gets tough. A lot of lvns come in thinking since they have experience it's a piece of cake. (That's what a graduate told me) Good luck to you all! I'll see you in registration. :)

Thank you for the info slicksgirl! I am so nervous about going into the 3rd semester just because it has a reputation of being so intense! Also, I have not worked as an LVN but I have been reviewing in my head all the procedures and such that I need to know. I want to call county and ask them when letters are going out or what the point cut off is but when I called last week they asked my name and I don't want them to think I am bugging! I think I am going to call anyways!

Okay so I did just call and the woman said she's pretty sure the acceptance letters went out this week so we should be getting them in a couple days. She did not know what the point cut off was but this is good news, we should be hearing something very soon!! Hopefully tomorrow since the mail has already come today! Best of luck to us all and hopefully we will be seeing you slicksgirl at registration!!!

Same here no letter

I'm so happy for you, I share your joy I haven't gotten anything! Did you get a call or just a letter?

Thank you Summer2013! You should be receiving something soon and hopefully we will see each other at registration!

I only got a letter. I'm not sure why they would call some people and not others.

Not sure either but I received a phone call when I got accepted. I didn't receive my letter and I guess they were waiting on me to reply. I got the phone call before I got the acceptance letter.
