I recently applied for a GN positions at East TN Children's and I really hope I get a call back. Can anyone tell me what the Knoxville area is really like and the hospital? I graduated in with my ADN in May here in KY and haven't found anything here. I am very much willing to relocate at this point since I have now gone most of a year without a job.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there! I can't say much about Children's Hospital because I have never worked there, but it is the ideal place to be if you only want to do pediatrics.
Have you looked into applying at Covenant Health? They have 5-6 hospitals in the Knoxville area. Go to www.covenanthealth.com. (They don't do pediatrics though...)
Knoxville is a super area, with lots to do and a fairly low cost of living.
Good luck to you!

I don't know anything about Knoxville hospitals as far as employment but did want to wish you all the best in your job search. I lived in Knoxville for quite a while and am just starting nursing school. There are several hospitals in the area though. St. Mary's, Park West (part of covenant health), Blount memorial, UT medical center. With such a large town I doubt you will have any trouble finding a good job :)
Best of luck to you!!

So far all the New Grad positions are saying they are actually starting in June. I can't wait that long. What other hospitals in TN can a New Grad get into NICU or peds?

I've seen several of your posts about looking for a NICU job as a new grad.
I also saw were someone mentioned Roanoke, VA. I happen to work in that NICU and was hired in as a new grad. New grads are able come in at any time of the year. In fact we hire about 15 new grads per year. We are a level III, 60 bed - mixed acuity unit. Carilion offers relocation assistance, NCLEX reimbursement, and a great tuition assistance program, if you are interested in furthering your education. We offer a 12+ week orientation, plus we have a mentoring program for the first 2 years to help you as you transition to your new life as a professional. If you have any questions about Roanoke, or working for Carilion please do not hesitate to contact me. Best of luck to you in your search for the NICU thats right for you.
