Yes, nurses wear many hats sometimes all at once. But for those nurses that have other jobs (or know of someone), what is that job and how many hours do you (or they) put in?
Maybe even a fun hobby to past the time and de-stress with.
Curious on how nurses balance their time of nursing with an alternate career, job, or hobby. Thanks for the feedback!
This post is a bit late but...
I currently work full time as a PHN. My role is mainly to work as a nurse consultant and coordinator. Love my job! 7-5, weekends off, every other Friday off. Very flexible...come in late, leave late.
So I got a job offer as a part time psych RN three nights a week night shift 11p- 7a. The nurse manager told me, it would be mostly chart auditing and the majority of the patients would be sleeping, if someone needs meds /attention, I would obviously follow protocol /MD orders. I flat out told her I have no psych RN experience , she said its fine and they train new grads often and I would get a 10 day orientation.
So, my question is what does it mean to audit charts and does it seem like a good deal?

I have worked 2 jobs for about 8 years. My full time job is in a hospital (staff development). My part-time job is for a local university, teaching 1 or 2 courses per year. Most of the time it is stressful and I don't do it for fun (though it has its pleasant moments). I do it to keep my foot in the academic world in case I ever lose my hospital job and need a career alternative. I have this vague idea that I might want to ease into retirement by working part time as a teach for a while before fully retiring.
The 2nd job pays VERY little money, but the extra cash has helped me pay for a few luxuries.
