Hi, I'm turning 28 on january and I have a 3 year old and a 11 month baby. For the last 3 years I have been traying to figure out how to follow my dream of becoming a nurse but I'm so scared that with two small children would be imposible. Is anyone like me? I just need to talk to some one that has been through similar experience of starting a new carrer with so many responsabilities allready beside school. Maybe talking to some of you finally give me the last push I think I need to start the whole process because sometimes I think I'm crazy of thinkink about a change at this point of my life. Thank's for sharing this with me. I'f you prefer you can write me to [email protected].

Steph:
I am in a similar situation. I'm 28 and have an almost 3 year old and a 16 month old. I'm only a few classes away from have a bachelor's degree in elementary ed, but I have no ambition to finish. I am a stay at home mom and have been taking night classes. I have really been thinking about nursing. Have been for a while now. I already have my pre-req. classes done. I guess I'm just wondering what made you decide to pursue nursing instead of education. My husband is encouraging me to go into nursing also. I am a very caring, compassionate person. Anytime I'm around nurses I admire them so much! I can just picture myself in that career. But I hesitate because of fear of poking people with needles, etc. I would just appreciate any advice. Being a stay at home mom is very important to me, but I'd like to have a career once the children start school.
hi, I am 26 and have a 2 1/2 yr old and a 14 month old. I have a degree in education and taught for a year before having my children. I have been staying home with them for hte past almost 3 yrs. I have been thinking about going to nursing school and when I found out there was a night program near my area I decided to pursue it so that I could be home with my children during the day (which was my main reason for not going sooner). I am taking the few pre req's that i need and hope to start nursing school next jan. (there is a year long waiting list at our school) I know it is going to get harder but I think it can be done and should be if it is something you believe in. You can do it...feel free to email me and keep in touch, since we are in similar situations.steph
HI Veronica! Just want to say that you and my daughter have the same name. LOL! And also, to let you know that I'm in the same boat as you. My daughter will be 3 next month and my son is 16 months. I'm searching for answers too. Hopefully, we'll find the encouragement we need here to help us get the ball rolling. Good luck!!

I'm 28- married, 3 kids, ages 8, 6, and 2. I have my pre-req's done for the lpn program and will be starting the lpn program this coming fall. Seems like there are a lot of nursing students about your age in similar situations, so no you definitely are not alone! Good luck to you as you pursue your dreams!:)
I went back to school when I was 38 and my kids were all in school. It is NEVER too late. There are threads on here with students in the 50's and 60's in nursing school.
I have a three year old now and only work part-time.
I'm grateful I'm a nurse but I would never choose my job over my family. They grow up as fast as lightening . . my oldest is now 21 years old. How the heck did that happen?? :)
Best of luck and take time to think things through and listen to all this great advice from folks who are there or who have been there.

Hey, I'm 30 Single Parent of 3 (ages 10,6,3). I started taking my pre-req this past fall, and applied to the program in Dec. I found out I'm alternate #7 and hopefully I will be admitted. Now I work temp, but plan on giving that up this summer to finish some of my pre-req. Luckily I found a good man who is very supportive in my dream.

Hi- I am 36 and was a middle school health and sex ed teacher for several years. I have a BS in Health Education adn a BS in Sociology. Before deciding to use my teahcing degree I was Coordinator of Volunteers at a Hospice and during college I was a Unit secretary in the Trauma unit of a large ER. When the last school year was over I decided to resign and pursue a career i nursing. I have 3 children ages 11,4, and 3. I was lucky- I only needed 3 prereqs because I had already had most of the classes.
I am hoping to begin the nursing program in January.
I too had a difficult time deciding whether to go back to school with all of my responsibilities. Although I have a husband, he often has to work late and is always on call. I will be going part time on Tuesday and Thursday nights and all day every other weekend. After I get my RN I plan to go right into a RN to BSN program that is offered at a local medical center through VCU. I have some of the same fears as you so you are not alone! I am so excited to begin and I am sure that this will be a lifelong career. Feel free to email me if you would like to talk. My email is [email protected].

Steph,
Wow- we have very similar backrounds (even though I'm 10 years older) I too was a teacher and have been at home with my children for a year ow. I will be going to nursing school at night also, hopefully beginning in January. Just curious- where do you live? I am in Virginia and will be attending an ADN program and then will be pursuing my BSN.

Hi I'm 28 and this is my first semester pre nursing (or any college for that matter!) I have two children too, ages 4&5. I decided to go into nursing because while I have a good part time job, I don't like the insecurity of knowing if this job ends it will be hard to find another good part time job, I want more of a career, some certainty.I went full force this semester with 14 credit hours, 8 of them being A&P I and Chem lol. Let me tell you, my first week of classes I was HORRIFIED! I was like WHAT am I doing here? Am I C-R-A-Z-Y? Now I love going to classes! I feel so proud of myself.
I plan to go for an associates first so my oldest will be 8 when I become an RN, not too bad! I wish I had started when they were toddlers.
If you can take some online classes I strongly recommend it. Of course you will most likely have to take some science classes on campus (pre nursing .. obviously nursing you must go to campus) Although some schools do offer science classes online (My school offers Biology online with a virtual lab)
I say the sooner the better....get it over with and move on to your career!
I started pre-nursing 93, had a baby 8/04. My classmates are already a head one year. My baby will be one year when I start my Nursing program this fall. I have been accepted in 2 colleges. My grades are better that when I had gone to school in my 20's. I am now in my late 30's. NEVER GIVE UP HOPE!

I will be 31 in a few days (11-17), and I have 2 kiddos......13 and 7. I wish I would have done this sooner, but better late than never!
Good luck to you!
