Anyone know of a hospital in Ohio Called Kettering and if so is it nice?

I worked at Kettering hospital in the late 80's, and LOVED it there! It's a seven day adventist hospital...missed the meat on the meals, but loved their meatless dishes too. The desserts were great, the salad bar was fabulous...but that was then. I have no idea what they are like today. :)

I worked for Kettering Medical Center for two years in the late '90s (don't know what's changed since then). It is a 7th Day Adventist healthcare system; the main (original) big hospital in Kettering with an attached junior college offering nursing, lab tech, rad tech, and several other healthcare degrees, two or three smaller satellite hospitals in different parts of the greater Dayton area, a retirement community on the campus of one of the satellite hospitals, at least one SNF, and a number of outpatient centers. The department I worked for was in a separate building off campus, so I didn't ever actually work in the main medical center (although I was over there quite a bit for meetings, etc.)

Kettering has a v. good reputation in the area; it is v. progressive clinically, but has a v. conservative social culture (part of the SDA culture). They are strict about the dress code. All meetings and, I think, shift reports began with officially mandated devotions and prayer. The cafeteria is vegetarian. The pay and benefits were good for the area, and most everyone I dealt with there over the couple years was v. pleasant. Most people I encountered seemed to be happy about working at Kettering.

Kettering is the "cushy" hospital in the Dayton area -- there is a large public hospital downtown, and there is sort of an unspoken attitude that poor people and other "undesirables" should go there and not bother us in affluent, comfy, suburban Kettering ... That was one thing that bothered me about the place. But, overall, I was v. pleased with Kettering as an employer.

Yes, I do remember this being true when I worked for Kettering. I think it worsened over the years. Now they are a part of Grandview Hospital/Southview Hospital and Kettering's sister hospital - Sycamore. Stay farrrrrrrrrrrrr away from Grandview Hospital! I worked there years ago, and it was insane. I had a phone interview with a nurse manager from Grandview last year sometime, and that conversation reminded me of why I left and would never go back. :chuckle

I currently work at Kettering, We can wear any scrubs, really isn't much of a dress code. You really don't notice the Seventh Day Adventist culture as much as you did years ago, mostly you just won't see pork in the cafeteria. I have worked there for 15 years and probably wouldn't work anywhere else in the area. We are currently trying to get magnet status, will know in about 6 weeks. Devotions and prayer have not in my knowledge been a reqruiment. Some units do this, but in my 15 years it has not been mandated. We get all kinds of patients i don't see it as the cushy hospital. maybe it was at one time. Hope this helps. Feel free to email me with questions. are you wanting to work there, if so maybe you could give my name as we get referrel bonus. julie [email protected]

I found a nurse agency with 4 week contracts in Ohio at kettering. She said it wasnt a strike but they had postions because alot of agency people had left the er.. have you heard anything about that?

Kettering hasn't used agency nurses, until very recently and only in certain areas of the hospital. I am not sure what areas, i think er probably could be one as it is a specialtiy area. No strike we don't have unions in the dayton area.
