Calling all Paducah, KY Nurses!

U.S.A. Kentucky

Published

I am a pre-nursing student at WKCTCS (Paducah) and noticed the KY forum seems overrun with people in Lexington-Louisville area. If you are a current or former student at the college or just a Paducah nurse in general give a shout out. We newbs need some good resources and some insider info on the local nursing scene.

I am a 32 year old male starting my nursing classes either spring or fall 2010 (may need the prereqs from fall to bankrupt a 10-year old B.A. GPA to get accepted). I am interested in ICU at either local hospital and eventually getting my CRNA.

When I get to ICU I will be the one with rapt attention. I eventually want to be a CRNA so I will be living in ICU for 2-4 years while I finish my BSN and CRNA prereqs! I just hope Lourdes or Western Baptist have an opening when I graduate (i live in lone oak). does lourdes have a CVICU or CTICU?

At lourdes we have lost 3 nurses to CRNA school in the last year. Their are currently 3 of us that are getting classes together and apps together to apply to CRNA school. We do lots of open hearts. Currently we did as many open hearts as WBH did the last year. We have only 1 heart surgeon they have 3. We are gaining one this month, he is in town but hasnt started cutting yet. Will be glad to see you when you make your way through for rounds and yes we do hire new grads.

So, I'm guessing I'll see you all at the conference this afternoon?? I would think that alternates would attend as well. I'm super excited!!

Wow there is so much stuff to turn in! I got most of my immunizations in Corbin Ky (my original hometown) so I don't even know where to get those records from! Maybe the health department? I know the records had to be sent down here for school.

Anyways, I can't wait for January! Being at orientation just made it seem official ya know? Everyone was really nice and I found out a few of my pre-req friends I hadn't talked to also got in.

DRA- I was all excited to meet you but when I got to the conference I realized I have no way of knowing who you are! LOL. I guess with all the excitment I forgot to ask!

I know, lol! I realized the same thing. My name is Danielle. I was called for one of the book bags. I had on a green sleeveless shirt and brown slacks. I'm tall with blonde hair, about shoulder length. Think I was on about the fourth row in the center section. How bout you?

Hello Paducah Nurses (and Nursing Students);

I am not actually a nursing student yet but I am applying to Murray's BSN program starting spring semester. I was previously pursuing a future in Pharmacy when I realized that Nursing is a better fit for me. Hopefully see myself in a paducah ICU one of these days.

Just a suggestion for anyone taking A&P I or II... Make time to study in the lab instead of at home (especially the bone and tissue exams in A&P I). You can pull A's in those classes as long as you study.

Okay nevermind. It looks as though my schedule was changed also! What happened to my other schedule!

Hi guys- a gentle reminder to please refrain from posting instructor/professor names in the public message boards, as well as your own full names. Not only is this against our Terms of Service, but protects your own privacy as well. Per our TOS:

No potentially libelous information about specific schools, instructors, or health care facilities/entities should be posted in these forums. While it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. It is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. Your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. While allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. Gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. Please do not give out personal information about others. Do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

Thanks in advance for being mindful of this.

what kind of tests can I expect in A&P 1? true/false, fill in the blank, matching, etc. ? i took the first chapter practice quiz online 2 months after reading it without studying at all and missed 1 out of 20... is it this easy in the beginning? the quiz was T/F! i excell in all but essay tests, I retain information well including memorization, I just have a hard time explaining concepts on paper.

I've heard that some teachers used standardized multi choice tests along with labeling as necessary, and OTHERS use much more difficult tests that incorporate fill in the blank, T/F, essay, and multi......hope this helps.
