Calling all Paducah, KY Nurses!

Published

I am a pre-nursing student at WKCTCS (Paducah) and noticed the KY forum seems overrun with people in Lexington-Louisville area. If you are a current or former student at the college or just a Paducah nurse in general give a shout out. We newbs need some good resources and some insider info on the local nursing scene.

I am a 32 year old male starting my nursing classes either spring or fall 2010 (may need the prereqs from fall to bankrupt a 10-year old B.A. GPA to get accepted). I am interested in ICU at either local hospital and eventually getting my CRNA.

wife told me over the phone may have misunderstood her. i got 56 points though. i am probably much better off waiting till fall since i can take 5 or 6 additional classes in the spring and summer, leaving only a handful other than the nursing classes!

That's true. I was in the same boat last semester. I actually applied then 2 days before the deadline (for this fall) I called and dropped my application on the advice of my Advisor. Not only did I have 5 classes left to take, but like i said on another post, my GPA wouldn't have counted (didn't have 12 non-developmental hours) so it was just better to wait a semester.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! I am an alternate. Hopefully I'll see you guys in NSG 101!

So, just curious, to anyone in the program, what goes on at the orientation?

I totally agree!! I tell you, I wouldn't have done it any other way.

I called WIA to see whenI should get an appoinment. She said all Spring students should get appoinments in October. She does think I can squeak by the income requirment, so that's awesome.

That's what they told me too, BUT I am going to apply now if there's no reason why I can't, cause my dh is holding off on a raise till I do, lol.

I just got a raise. they said It was based on 6 months worth of earnings, but I only have 3 months worth of check stubs so I'm not sure what to do! The lady I talked to seemed really nice though, said that right now they are trying to get the Fall students done. But she never told me I couldn't apply, just that it would be better to wait until October. I'm probably going to wait so I can get together all the check stubs!

Hello! I work at Lourdes in the ICU. Nice to see all of you applying and workign for your ADN. Good luck to those of you in the applying process, and hang in there to those that are currently in nursing school. It will all be worth it in the end. I hope to see you all when you make your rounds through the ICU and hopefully come work with us, I cant be missed, I am the only guy on day shift.

grubby98 thanks!! Its always nice to have positive feedback when you are a NIT(nurse in training). There are so many horror stories out there, lol. It's usually never easy being the new kid whether your profession is nursing or something else(0: See ya in ICU:up:

thanks for the words of encouragment. They mean a lot to us scared new nursing students! LOL! Can't wait to get to the ICU!

ICU is def a fun place but very stressful too to work. glad to see you all come through one day. Only advice I like to tell people is find someone that has been a nurse for years and use them as a crutch when your having a bad day and just need to run something by them. I was fortunate and had an aunt and grandmother to call during those crappy times in school. They always seemed to find a way to talk me through whatever it was.
