Kentucky Board KARE

Hi there,

I just wanted to start a thread for anyone who is in the Kentucky Board of Nursing's KARE program. I thought this would be a good place to share/exchange info and lend some support to one another! :angrybird12:

Are you able to tell me a little why they ordered one? If not, it's cool. Im just trying to figure out what to do. Also- do you remember the actual persons name who did your eval?

I prepulled meds for the next shift on an adolescent psych unit where I was designated charge. I know I shouldn't have done that but I was confused covering a night shift and the day shift had only 3 total people for almost 40 kids, so I did. A stimulant went missing. I don't even know which one. They blamed me because I prepulled them. I'd found other stimulants hidden in the med room on my shift and reported it before with no repercussions. Also should have been a red flag for me. I tested negative for any substances, passed my substance abuse eval and 0 history of any substance abuse prior. Didn't matter. Still got a reprimand and a year of monitoring. I wasn't offered the full KARE which means no benefit of having it erased upon completion. It's just there forever looking like I stole meds from my employer, and (worse to me) my kids at work whom I loved so much. It sucks so much. But my own fault for doing the wrong thing by prepulling for the next shift. Lesson learned I guess.

What is this I read about having to have a 12 step sponsor do monthly sign offs? Is that for the whole 5 years or does doing 3 meetings a week count?

Everyone's contract is different. I didn't have to go to meetings or have my employer send in anything monthly.

We have to do 3 meetings a week but zoom is accepted and have a sponsor fill out a piece of paper.

How do you find a sponsor? Are they from online meetings?

Yes or if you already know someone  just make sure it's someone who is reliable to fill out the paperwork on time. The meetings and sponsor Is easy.

Sorry for all the questions. I guess I mean do you have to have 2 separate papers filled out? Like one from the 3 meetings and then a separate one from a sponsor? Or is it all in the same? Sorry if that question doesn't make sense hehe.

It's OK. I understand you want to get this correct.  There's a sheet I fill out for zoom meetings but if you go in person you fill it out and have people sign I think, I only do zoom. Your sponsor fills out a different form. Someone from KARE should explain this to you to make sure it's the same for you

How do you find a sponsor thats willing to fill out a form every single month? Seems insane to think someone is willing to do that.

It's every 3 months for us. It probably takes a minute at most.
