Kent ABSN UH-Cohort 2015

Published

I'm getting ready to apply to Kent's ABSN UH-Cohort for Fall 2015. Anyone else applying too? I know the program is extremely competitive so of course Im super nervous. The way the UH cohort is set up would be so perfect for my schedule and family, so knowing that only 16 of over 100 applicants are accepted makes my stomach churn. Im hoping to find some other people in the same boat with me! :)

My info for the application- I have my BS in Maternal Child Health specializing in Lactation. I am an IBCLC (Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant), I also have my ALC (Advanced Lactation Consultant) and CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor). I currently work as a lactation consultant PRN at UH-Elyria, previous to getting hired I volunteered as a lactation consultant there for 1.5 years doing breastfeeding support group, and inpatient and outpatient consults, so hopefully that'll help my application having 'healthcare' experience. I have a 3.5 overall GPA and all Blue classes, prereq's, and core classes done. I know my GPA isnt the strongest and that is what has me worried.

How about you all?!

Congrats!!! I'm a little sad we won't be in the same cohort though :) maybe we'll meet at orientation?

Maybe!! Is yours July 7th also?? I'm so excited!! Who knows, we might even have coinciding clinicals, because I think the daytime's are on Saturday too! That 30k was a little daunting, have you applied for any scholarships or anything? I want to but I'm not sure where to begin!

Yup! July 7th!

The price is definitely intimidating. I applied for all the KSU nursing scholarships I could for this academic year (application period closed for those May 1st, which I think is stupid because we dont even know if we are accepted at that point) so Im really hoping I get some of those, I also applied for general KSU scholarships too, and have loans that I got through FAFSA. The hospital I work at also provides 2-3k for getting your BSN so I'll apply for that next spring. Our acceptance was too late to apply this year.

Great! Then we'll probably meet:)

Good luck, I hope you get some scholarships! Honestly, I was so nervous about actually getting in that I'm lucky I even remembered to apply for FAFSA, haha! I have tons of student loans from my BS still, even though I had a "full ride" to a private school here in PA. But I guess I'll figure that all out as it comes, getting in was the part I was most nervous about in this whole process!

Thanks! I think the general KSU ones might still be open, though Im not sure! Hopefully we both find some funding! My first BS has me drowning too still.

JavaRX- did you buy the uniforms through Life Uniforms? Or is there a cheaper place? At orientation Life Uniforms will be there, and I was wondering if I should get fitted, take the brand/style numbers and buy elsewhere. $140 for a uniform seems steep.

If I could do it over, I would buy the top only and get your own white pants that are comfortable (theirs are awful.). And they say white shoes but by second semester everyone was wearing colorful nikes (or whatever brand you like). don't buy their stethoscope, pick out one you like. Don't buy the name tag, none of us ever wore them.

Can the pants be any style? Cargo, fit, etc?

So, technically they will tell you it must have Kent state logo, blah blah. The cargo ones seem to look a bit too different than the ones we were "required" to wear. If the pants were half decent, I would say buy them. But they're not- they're awful. So skip it and just buy normal white pants- mine had a back pocket (not a big deal). Try to make them look like the "required" ones so it looks like you're following rules ;0)

Hi there! I've been accepted to the Daytime program and am not from the area, wanted to meet others that were also in the program. Let me know if you're interested!
