Kent ABSN UH-Cohort 2015

Published

I'm getting ready to apply to Kent's ABSN UH-Cohort for Fall 2015. Anyone else applying too? I know the program is extremely competitive so of course Im super nervous. The way the UH cohort is set up would be so perfect for my schedule and family, so knowing that only 16 of over 100 applicants are accepted makes my stomach churn. Im hoping to find some other people in the same boat with me! :)

My info for the application- I have my BS in Maternal Child Health specializing in Lactation. I am an IBCLC (Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant), I also have my ALC (Advanced Lactation Consultant) and CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor). I currently work as a lactation consultant PRN at UH-Elyria, previous to getting hired I volunteered as a lactation consultant there for 1.5 years doing breastfeeding support group, and inpatient and outpatient consults, so hopefully that'll help my application having 'healthcare' experience. I have a 3.5 overall GPA and all Blue classes, prereq's, and core classes done. I know my GPA isnt the strongest and that is what has me worried.

How about you all?!

Thanks! I actually don't have a Facebook - yet. Shocking in 2015, I know lol. I have a feeling I'm going to have to make one if I get in because it is a really good way to stay connected. I read that on the website about the many applicants but it just really surprised me that no one else had surfaced, just based on the amount of forums created by prior cohorts..and actually it took me going to the 4th or 5th page in my search results to even find this! But I'm glad I did..I had all the same questions you asked, so hopefully someone respondsI

5 or 6 pages!? It still showed on page one for me! I would have bumped it if I'd known it had fallen back.

Yep, I searched this forum for 'Kent State Fall 2015' and I believe it was the 5th page. I have been searching for some talk of the fall semester for about two months now but only recently realized that this forum was likely the only place where I would find anything. Maybe now that we've been bumping it we'll find some other applicants!:)

Good luck!! Come back and let us know how it goes!

I feel like it went well! Good luck to you, hopefully you see this before you go! They only asked me 3 questions and it only took about 10 mins or so! Let me know how yours goes!

Yes, you can work on the opposite weekend day if you don't have Clinicals (towards the middle to end anyways).

Parking was free and as close as you can get. UH and Kent didn't feel it was safe to have students walking downtown Cleveland at night (obviously) so we we in a parking garage that connected to the hospital.

All done :) I feel like it went well. ------------- said there were up to 6 points allowed for the interview portion, Im hoping I got all 6, so my GPA is the only place I'd not be getting full points since I have the prereq's and blue classes done. (she said the average GPA of the ones invited to interview was cumulative 3.5, and I think 3.1 for the sciences, though Im not sure if Im remembering that one right) Apparently they are interviewing 80 people, I thought it was just 40. :( There were 132 applicants this cycle. So now Im back to being pretty worried about getting in, especially since I want UH cohort and they only admit 16. :(

Are you going for UH, or daytime?

I put any cohort on my application, as I don't really have any preference. Did ----------------- mention how many total slots were open? I know it's somewhere around 40 but don't know the exact number. I'm super nervous now. I feel like it went well but maybe they were just really nice and they were like that with everyone? I don't know. How many questions did they ask you? I'll be freaking out until next Wednesday, that's for sure! Lol

I know she said 48, but those numbers dont add up with 24 to daytime, and 16 to UH. So I dont know. I know for sure though that UH went down from 20 to 16 though.

I was asked about my educational background, what preparations I had done so feel I would be able to do the program, what I felt the role of the RN was, and if my being in lactation and knowing that is my specialty would make me disappointed (I think that was the word they used) with nursing school since there is only 7 weeks OB.

She said she was aiming for having the emails out Monday, though it could go as late as Wednesday. Hoping it doesnt go to Wednesday!

Yep I had similar questions...except my third one was what does a nurse do in your mind and how do you feel like you fit into that role. Maybe that's a good sign we had similar questions?? And you're right the numbers don't make sense. Well, I'll be praying for us non stop until we get the email!! Hopefully more applicants surface on here too!

Hello everyone, am so glad I found this forum. I got invited for the interview last week and am super nervous. I feel like the interview was short am not sure if that was a good or bad thing. But I was told Wednesday will be the day I found out. I am really nervous but praying and hoping I get in. I wish you all the best of luck.

Thanks, you too! I can't decide if the short interview is really good or really bad..it can easily go either way! Well, it's out of our hands at this point so whatever's meant to happen will happen. Fingers crossed!
