Kennesaw State University ABSN Fall 2014

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone,

I haven't seen a thread for those of us applying to KSU'S ABSN (or even traditional) program and thought I would start one. I am taking the TEAS pretty late (early January) and will have most of my pre-reqs done by December, but I'm pretty nervous. I have around a 3.5 from my bachelors degree at UGA and will probably end up with around the same in pre-reqs. It seems pretty competitive so not sure of my chances! Hope I can blow the TEAS out of the water. :)

If I did my researching correctly on here, applicants were hearing pretty late last year, like late April and May. I hope they can end the suspense a little earlier this year!

Anyone else applying?

I got an email from Sandi today. I got in! Don't know why I didn't find out with everyone else, but at least it worked out :)

Good! And congratulations :)

Congrats! I cant wait to meet you guys this fall!:)

Looking for a bit of advice here...I have been accepted to the University of North Georgia BSN as well as KSU BSN and I am having a terrible time deciding which program to pursue. UNG is closer, I could live at home (for basically free), be closer to my fiancé in Athens, network with the my hometown hospital where I eventually would like to work (At least I think I would like to work there, it is all I have ever known) however, this is UNG first year with a bsn, they have always offered ASN in years past (but did offer a RN to BSN). KSU is about an hour and a half away, I would have to move up there probably by second semester, I would be away from my fiancé and family, although my brother does live in Canton, very close to KSU...any insight? I have had many people tell me what an excellent program KSU is, it's amazing reputation, but UNG is also a well known program where I am from and most nurses at the local hospital are graduates from there..I am so torn!

I was accepted into the Accelerated program! Can't wait to meet everyone :)

Miss1992,

You need to do what's right for you no matter the ranking of schools or what anyone else says. Opportunities will present themselves at either school. Yes Kennesaw is a great school and it is a huge accomplishment that you were accepted. But what good is a degree from Kennesaw if you are going to be miserable the whole time missing your family and fiancé? But also remember that although it's great to be with your family and friends and you want to spend more time with your fiancé, you can't put aside what is best for you and what you really want to do. If Kennesaw is really where you want to go, come here and make it work, your family and fiancé will always be there for you no matter where you go. But these next two years are just a short time and you won't get them back!

I fought with a similar decision when I studied abroad in Costa Rica for 9 months having to leave my comfort zone with my family, friends, and long time boyfriend (now my husband). But I did it anyway and I wouldn't change a thing! It was the best experience despite all the changes I had to face for those short months.

I'm sorry I didn't give you an exact answer but I hope this helps a little! :)

Maybe you should contact the hospital where you want to work, or even some of the nurses who already work there. They'd probably offer you better advice than I can. Hfennel also raises some really excellent points. Whatever you decide, congratulations on getting into two good schools!

Were u accepted for the traditional or accelerated program? Will you finish faster at one program vs the other? Also there are usually people from all different areas and you could peobably end up carpooling part of the way or staying in this area for a few days a week but still live at home. It's awesome you got acceptedv to both programs but so hard to choose! The good thing if you choose Kennesaw is that you still won't be too far from home. I had the choice to go to nursing school when I was 21 and ended up dropping out because of my family and boyfriend situation and I regret it because I am now 28 and finally going! You're family will always be there and you need to do what is right for you long term. But either school is great and I'm sure will get you a great job afterwards

Thank you everyone for your advice! I was accepted for the traditional program. It runs a little longer than UNG's program, but not enough I sway my decision either way. I was able to connect with the nurse recruiter from the hospital that I would like to work at once graduated and she recommended UNG, since we would be doing all of our clinicals there and it would give me a chance to network and potentially line up a job for once I graduate. There's also a great nurse extern program the hospital offers to local students that I'm very interested in so I have decided to pursue UNG. Thanks again for all of your advice and best of luck at KSU :)

I'm really glad that you found a solution that would work for you best, both personally and professionally! I really depend on my family (and boyfriend ;)) during periods of stress, so it's exciting that you that you won't have to sacrifice easy access to your loved ones for professional opportunities. Best wishes to you and your future classmates!

Has anyone heard anything about orientation?

Has anyone else not taken their CPR yet? My friend is having trouble finding a training session. She's got a list of the pre-approved instructors, but nobody seems to be getting back to her.
