Kennesaw State University ABSN Fall 2014

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone,

I haven't seen a thread for those of us applying to KSU'S ABSN (or even traditional) program and thought I would start one. I am taking the TEAS pretty late (early January) and will have most of my pre-reqs done by December, but I'm pretty nervous. I have around a 3.5 from my bachelors degree at UGA and will probably end up with around the same in pre-reqs. It seems pretty competitive so not sure of my chances! Hope I can blow the TEAS out of the water. :)

If I did my researching correctly on here, applicants were hearing pretty late last year, like late April and May. I hope they can end the suspense a little earlier this year!

Anyone else applying?

Hi chartreuse! I actually applied and got in to the traditional BSN program for Spring '14 but I asked to be deferred to Fall semester. I was thinking of starting a thread for us so thanks for doing it for me! I am automatically in for Fall but it will be great to be apart of everyone else's journey! Plus, perhaps I can be helpful since I have been through the process. I think 3.5 is good but every little bit helps. Definitely do exceedingly well on the TEAS so you'll stand out. I believe the average is around mid 80's. Have you began studying for the TEAS yet? I could tell you how I prepared if you'd like. Looking forward to the fall!!

Also, rumor around campus is that the interview process is being phased out. That's one less thing to stress about!

Ah, dang- I'm actually a good interviewer, so I was hoping that would help my case! Maybe they'll replace it with an essay or something... And I'd love to hear your suggestions on TEAS- I'm not worried about the lit/grammar/anything language arts portion, and I just took Bio, Anatomy, and Chem 1 and 2 so hopefully the freshness will help. But math on the other hand... lawd help me. Did you find any particular study books/guides helpful?

I think there will be a personality test in lieu of the interview. They had all the interviewees from my group take a mock personality test to use as a basis for future testing.

I wasn't concerned (at first) with English but I definitely brushed up quite a bit when I began taking practice tests and making poor grades on the English/language portion. The math was very easy to me. I expected it to be much harder but I suppose it depends on your affinity for all things arithmetic. I bought the ATI practice book with the two practice exams. I bought it straight from their website. It's pricey but I found it beneficial. I also downloaded a TEAS practice app on my iPad and took the tests over and over until I had them memorized. Additionally, I read the TEAS guide cover to cover. More than once. Hhaha. And I took the practice tests in the back of the practice book numerous times.

If you do decide to get the practice tests that ATI website offers in addition to the booklet, be advised, they are really hard! I was told to expect about 10 points higher on the actual exam than you make on the online practice test and that was true for me.

A personality test!? What the heck. That is a big load of garbage. I didn't work my butt off to get undermined by an inaccurate, computerized assessment of my personality. I'll be saying some serious prayers that they don't start that until 2015!

Thanks for the tips- I figured the ATI would be the best way to go, so I'll purchase one. Hopefully worth the steep price tag!

Are you starting the traditional or accelerated in the fall?

I'm doing traditional. Do all my recommendations! I recently talked a friend of mine into getting the app and doing all those things I did and he got an 83 with only about a week of studying. Not too bad! I studied for a LONG time! I started studying months in advance.

Do you remember what app you downloaded? There are a couple available, none of which from ATI, though.

I honestly don't. However, I do remember it was not from ATI. My friend also simply downloaded a generic TEAS help app, not the same one as I and he found it helpful. Good luck! If you study hard, it really isn't that hard. I had about 4 deductive reasoning questions on mine which I didn't remember there being in any of the prep material. So, if you are lacking in that area, brush up. They weren't hard questions but you really have to pick the info apart. Make sure you brush up on physical science, mitosis vs meiosis, anatomy. Have you taken Micro? The science part was definitely the most difficult but still totally do-able. I found the rest of the exam quite easy compared to all the prep work. Let me know if you have more questions.

Stop the press?!!? They could seriously be considering dropping the interview portion??? That's exciting news! I'm applying this summer for the Fall 2015 program, so that's great to hear!

That's what I've heard. It could be good or bad. Good for the ones that feels good about their grades and maybe don't interview so well (me); however, it could be bad for people who maybe don't have great scores but really shine in person. I guess it just depends on where you stand on all that. The interview was definitely nerve-racking but they were very nice people. It wasn't bad.
