Kennedy King College

Published

:D Hello, my name is Talisha Rodgers. I'm 26yrs old the mother of two wonderful little boys (3 &1) I recently started to apply at different school for LPN. I live in Elgin, IL and my Community College(E.C.C.) waiting list is almost 3 years. My mother who an RN thought I should try a Chicago City College. After a week I have decided on Kennedy King College. Just wondering if any of you ever attend and how was the teacher? the class size etc? I still have pre-req to take which I am taking this summer. Just a little advice would be great!!! If you know of any family/friend that attend KKC for Nursing please share. :bowingpur

Thanks You and Be Blessed

They didn't tell me anything about a wating list. I applied back in November and received a letter in March stating that I need to pick a date to take the

pre-admissions test. So I'll be taking my test next week Friday and hopefully will be starting this summer in June.

Im almost done at Wright. They do have an informal waiting list for CNAs who cant score high enough on the entrance exam and continually apply. Other than that a formal waiting list is news to me.

They base your admittance almost entirely on your entrance exam.

Also I would not recommend any friend of mine to attend this school for various reasons. They are disorganized and expect a lot out of the students despite their disorganization. I feel the staff treats the students with a general air of superiority, as if we were children. They spring stuff on you at the last minute. and if you have a grievance, they dont care.

Ive heard good stuff about Truman, hopefully ill be able to go there to finish my RN.

Congratulations on your almost completion of the program!

Ok now you've just made me nervous by saying you wouldn't recommend the school becuase they're not organized, but I kind of picked up on that from the few encounters I did have with the staff. I thught it seemed pretty unprofessional as fas communication goes and was hoping I was wrong, but thanks for clarifying it.

Well like I said in the earlier post I go take my entrance exam on Friday. Is there any information as afar as what scores they look at and what scores you need to be considered for the program

Finally I can talk to someone who actually has experience with this particular school, if you get a chance please email me at [email protected]. Thnx for all the info you've aalready given.

I scored very high on the entrance exam, as i remember there are people who were admitted on the first shot with scores in the 60s. Im not really sure what the cutoff is.

FYI they give the same test twice. I heard that from someone who took it twice. It may behoove you to memorize some of the questions you were unsure of and write them down immediatly after the test so you can have the answers for your second time around if it comes to that.

As far as admittance is concerned, they have a program called "carreras de salud" which is a program funded by NGOs and it is basically a hispanic culture club. 30% of all seats in the program are granted to Carreras de Salud students:

20/60 of every class in the composed of these students.

10/30 of every RN completion class.

If you are hispanic you can join that club and you will essentially be gaurenteed admission at some point unless you are very academically incompetant. I think you can also get in if you speak spanish, although I know a girl who spoke spanish was not let in for whatever reason, I really dont know the specifics of her case.

FYI you can apply the same test scores over at Kennedy King College, be persistant the people who answer the phone may not know this. doing so you may apply for their LPN-RN programs also. They have a way nicer facility and the Director of the program is well liked by everyone ive spoken to. In contrast, the Director of the program at Wright is generally NOT well liked even by some of her own collegues not to mention students.

But speak to someone over there, I dont know how well everything else functions.

you can PM me if you have other questions.

I wonder what the requirements are to get into that club. I've called a few times and they are very tight lipped about it.

just google "carreras de salud" and call Elizabeth

you can PM me if you have other questions.

Thank you so much for all the information you've given me about the program. I'm sure I'll have some more questions after I take the test on Friday, but wish me luck. And thnx again!

cool, let me know... good luck on the exam!

I definitely will, and thnx!!!

do you have to be in district to apply to any of the city colleges of chicago?

No, you don't need to be in district to apply to CCC, but you have to pay out of district tuition if you don't live in Chicago. By the way, I was notified today that I got accepted to Truman nursing program. I'm so excited and happy.:yeah:
