NPs stand to make more, physicians stand to loose. most CRNAs i think deal with elective surgeries which are mostly covered by private insurance and medicare anyway so probably no difference???

I'm a male nurse and work full time hh, it happens from time to time. I have worked for 5-6 agencies, some of the office staff will have some prejudices and be hesitant to assign me. In my experience this is only a factor in about 10% of cases or less, nit really a big deal all things considered, I have way more work then I can handle anyway

could anyone tell me if one can get a job in an NYC nursing home these days?

The American Southwest excluding California is hiring. South Texas, southern parts of NM and Arizona. In the RGV in Texas including cities like Laredo, McAllen, Brownsville they really need people you can essentially get a job in specialty youd like. The catch is that that area of the country is borderland and is more like Mexico than the US. Hence youll want to speak spanish and must be familiar with 3d world country living. Smaller towns in TX like eagles pass are also hiring easy in. The bigger cities are tighter but way better than NYC. If you want home health or nursing home work I can hook you up here in Chicago, easy to come by, especially home health, start at 80 K a year no experience. This may just be my experience however because I speak spanish, so PM me if youre interested and ill investigate further. The down side of HHA is you have to manage and juggle and be willing to drive a lot. But, im sure availability of this type of work is similar in many areas of the country.

As far as I know Rush and U of C are the only hospitals that really push that BSN only jibberjabber. At most hospitals youre all good with an ASN, BSN will help though.

I know that im most areas of the country Home Health, LTC hospitals, and nursing homes are easier to get into. Certainly true here in Chicago. Looking foward, the obama initiative will put NPs in a good position in the future, but that is years down the line.

Based on what ive been reading on the posts, South Texas and Southern New Mexico are the only areas of the country hiring or with moderate job prospects. This probably has much to do with the fact that real estate prices didnt bubble like they did in many other areas of the country and hence the economic downturn was not as steep as just about any other state with major cities (greater than 1 million). This is especially true for new grads. I know here in Chicago, hospitals are very tight these days. The only thing available here is home health and LTC. Like the previous poster said the East Coast-- Philly, NYC, Boston has a terrible job market. Dont even start with Florida. Not much better on the west coast, LA and SD are bad but the bay area is ridiculously bad. Unfortunate for me that I would like to move to NYC or SF but due to the job situation Im stuck here for now althought Im thinking of heading to Texas RGV for some ER experience. I hear the RGV is very grimy, but, Im a single guy, fluent in spanish, and having traveled quite a bit im familiar with third world country problems A quesiton for any one reading this post: I speak spanish, other than moving South Texas, does anyone have suggestions on how I could leverage that ability for career development given todays hiring environment?

I got to say, im in their RN completion program and it is much better. Not sure if its because the instructors respect us more (which they do and Im not sure why), because the material is easier (a lot of it is review from the LPN), Its less stressful (due to the fact you kinda know what to expect form nursing school culture), or some other reason I cant put my finger on. My advise to the previous poster would be to go to the RN completion program. But once your in the program, study for your HESI starting the first day. In cohort just ahead of us only 15/47 passed on the first try....ouch! If you dont pass the second time you have to repeat the whole program! imagine the stress of that, so START STUDYING EARLY EARLY EARLY...

FYI, anyone looking to move for a job RGV texas is hiring for everything, I hear its rough out in those parts though. especially if you dont speak spanish.

thanks for the input guys and gals. thats amazing that not even home health agencies are not looking for nurses. I have LPN home health and nursing home experience. I also speak spanish. do you all think I could find something given that scenario?
